First of all, hats to to our one and only Cancun Canuck for great blog coverage!! :lotsofmichaelf: :lotsofmichaelf: Now here is a link to some pictures and videos taken this morning (Nov. 2, 2009) of the first beach being rebuilt--the Royal Sunset with some shots of the LeBlanc next door. The videos are not that good but you get the idea. Very impressive operation. http://tinyurl.com/yjnl9qy Feel free to add more and better ones.
Thank you Jim!! That's a great job of reporting. Do you know if they're doing the infrastructure modifications that were in the original plans, or are they just pumping sand like last time?
I have read and heard that they will be doing something--have heard everything from cement cubes out in the ocean to break the waves to actual breakwaters to be built. For now they are just pumping sand as long as it lasts. There are only about 1.5 million cubic meters in la Ollita--about 25% of what is needed for Cancun so they have enough to do from LeBlanc to Punta Cancun approximately and then it is all over unless and until the free up the sand bank off of Cozumel or find another source. And as a new chapter to the ongoing saga, this morning a small group of Isla fishermen set off to do a "Greenpeace-style" harrass-the-ship maneuver (pic here: http://twitpic.com/o1mhn ) and are out there now. The Harbormaster and the Navy says if they try to stop the dredging they will be arrested. Here is an Isla blog with up-to-the-minute updates in Spanish: http://tvislamujeres.blogspot.com/
