Ok so I have made a few mentions of this here and there over the past month or so. Just figured I would provide an update to anyone that is interested. I was in an event this past Friday called “Wing Bowl”. It is a competitive eating contest. Now that may sound gross to most, but there are a few elements to this event that I think my fellow forum members might enjoy. They are DRINKING and HALF NAKED GIRLS. Ok so this is a Philadelphia tradition, and it is in its 23 year. The contest is to eat the most chicken wings, but there is much more to it than that. The Wells Fargo Center (where the Flyers play) doors open and 5am and 20,000+ people make their way in. Most have these people have been drinking all night, or get up very very early and tailgate in the parking lot. About 6am the event begins, and around 30 “eaters” make their grand entrances into the arena on parade style floats, followed by entourages of their closest idiot friends and “Wingettes”. (Wingettes are one of the main draws to the event, and they basically are half naked hot girls that walk around and get the crowd pumped up in more ways than one. They also have their own contest for who is the hottest. Many of these girls are from strip clubs from the area, but there are also normal girls as well, that don’t get as naked, and just do it for fun). After all the entrances, and several other crazy displays, the contest begins. It is two 14 minute rounds, and then a 2 minute round. I lost. Not that I ever expected to win, because I am not a professional eater. The winner ate 444 wings in 30 minutes. I ate about 100 in round 1, and wasn’t in the top 10 to advance to the second round. No biggie, we still really had a great day. After the event is over(9am) everyone goes to all the strip bars and regular bars in the area. So it is basically just a big drunken event and there are lovely ladies everywhere. It gets criticism from women rights groups, and tons of other thing. But oh well this is Philadelphia, and this is who we are! My eater name was “The Animal Cannibal”. Top 10 or not, 100 wings is impressive! Or horrifying. Not sure which. Nope, definitely impressive. Watched some videos of the contest online. Looks like a blast!
