What to tip andy buy souvenisrs with? american dollars or pesos? if a tip 1.00/drink, is that considered cheap??
your choice both readly accepted. we use ud dollars and trv cks no problems. if us money make all bills are like new-no torn, worn wrote on money. the locals can not exchange them-also us coin is not acepted. we go the bank and get about $25 per day in $1s just for tipping and use any left over pesos
thanks for the heads up on tipping. we will be there july 26-31 getting close and getting excited.. Will sure remember about getting the one's from the bank b4 leaving home
A buck a drink at an all-inclusive resort is not at all cheap. Usually I'll just start the bartender out with $5, then throw bucks at him every other round or so, which for me, adds up to about $20-$30 day in tip money. Like others have said, bring a big wad of $1 bills for this purpose. When I shop for souvenirs, I usually go to the money exchange first and get pesos. I find it easier to haggle for low prices when we are talking pesos instead of dollars.
Just got our tickets and they came along with a travel advisory re: american currency. Says some Mexican hotels etc. may refuse to accept American currency. Telling us to use pesos or Canadian $. Planned on using american for tipping at least, don't want to walk around with pockets full of loonies everyday. What are people hearing about this?
USD are still widely used, I'd be surprised if you find anywhere that wont accept them. Pesos will be accepted everywhere. Canadian $ I'm surprised you're being advised to take them. They are not widely accepted but of course your travel agency reps will be glad to take them off your hands which is why they probably advised this in the first place.
no problem, that "advisory" has been around for a couple of years. its mostly for Large amounts. never had a problem with american money just make sure its not old or torn. frank
