We had always took US dollars up until a couple of Year ago when we last went to the Moon Palace and was informed we would be better with Pesos as the Mexicans now prefer this, is this still correct? Maria & Mark xx
we tip with 20 peso bills( about $1.50 us)......the best part about this is that they are waterproof so u dont have to get out of the pool. we also heard as well that by using pesos the employees will have some money they can use right away without having to go exchange it. i guess that outside the tourist areas they dont generally accept american. one thing to keep in mind though is that we had to give 3 days notice for pesos at the bank so if u are leaving tomorrow u may need to go with american, which is obviously fine too. We usually tip about $4-5 a day for the room cleaner. probably much more than needed but they are always awesome and what those extra couple dollars mean to us compared to them makes it more than worth it
Definitely Pesos for tipping. Make a point to convert at the airport before you go (banks do generally need a few days) and ask for small bills. The front desk at TTR will convert or break down larger bills if they have the smaller bills, but you won't get a good rate. Our advice: tip your servers/maids more on the first day, or every few days, and on the last day. Better yet, find a few servers who you really like, and just focus on tipping them and sitting in their sections and you'll always get the best service (and a table with a drink waiting for you) anywhere you go. If you plan on going off the resort, traveling, casino, buying party favors lol, etc - bring US dollars.
We tipped with USD as we had heard that was preferred but maybe our info was out of date. Hey Steve, can you weigh in on this for clarification?
We bring 2 dollar bills and tip every employee we see everyday. We understand that the emplyees LOVE the novelty of the 2 dollar bill and often save them and regard them as lucky. Sort of the way I feel about U S silver dollars. Do as you please they will glady accept tips. We leave 20 in twos on our bed first night same to our favorite bartenders and get unbelievable service and treatment.
Hey!! We are just back, have an amazing time! It does not matter which you take!! Everywhere takes both, it's a bit more expensive (I guess exchange rate) when paying with dollars if they give you a price in pesos. Really doesn't matter, apart from if you are uk based you need pesos or pounds to get out of the country! Have a great time! So jealous!!
