Any update on the preference for tipping. USD still OK? I had heard it was going to start being difficult for the service people to change USD to Pesos. We always bring lots of $1's because we have a hard time obtaining small denominations in Peso's. :musik026::musik026::liebe011:artytime::liebe011:artytime: Countdown: 37 Days to TTR Cabo 4 months, 26 days to TTR Cancun
Although some merchants restrict the total number of dollars that can be used for purchases by a single customer, in a single transaction, dollars are still easily spent by local people- at convenience stores and other places they shop- when they are making small purchases. I doubt any local person will toss those dollars you give as a tip back in your face!
A dollar currently gets you $10.55 pesos today at Walmart. Those that you tip can use USD to buy their groceries. So a buck is better than $10 MXN. If you go to Walmart, Costco, Soriana, Sams, etc it always seems like you get about 20 coins in your change. Today I had $38 coming and got 3-$10's and 8-$1's. This is all pesos by the way. I love accumulating the centavos from Costco. They come in 10's, 20's and 50's. 10 centavos is less than a penny. So I dump them in a plastic bag and then go back and pay my bill with them. I get a kick out of this sick behavior. You can also dump them on the kids and seniors who bag your groceries as PART of what you tip them.
