We will be in Cancun July 12-17. My parents have some pesos from their trip back in 1997 trip (long ago!) and I am wondering if we can still use them? The date on the bills say 1987.
    Thanks

Just curious as to what denominations you have and how many of each. I may be interested in buying them just for the memories.

If interested please reply to this by a Private Message.

Back in the early 90's the exchange rate was over $3,000 Mxn to $1 US. I had some $100,000 peso bills, each worth roughly $30 US. Mexico revalued its currency in early 1993 to be on par with the dollar. Inflation is still pretty bad relatively speaking as now you get about $12.50 pesos for $1 US.

When your parents traveled here there were most likely 2 currencies floating around, the pesos that you have, the old ones, and then the new ones which is what they were called, Nuevos Pesos.

You can probably sell them at a bank, or rather convert them at some rate to the current version. But as Life says, they are worth next to nothing. I would love to have a few of those $100,000 babies.
