Friendly reminder and question for those who make the trip on a regular basis. Has anyone been given a hard time(or even turned away) for having a passport that expires in less than 6 months? I’ll have about 4 months left on my passport, so I am going to renew just to be safe.
If it's less than 6 months, just renew. I know that's what I did, cause I didn't want to take the chance. And I have heard of people having problems. I don't think it's super common, but 100% not worth the risk if you have the time.
Thanks ScubaSteve. Was planning on renewing anyways due to the upcoming domestic flight rule changes. Reminder everyone, check your passport expiration date. If it’s expiring within 6 months of your return date, renew it. You might still get into Mexico, but do you really want to chance it?
Renew. Very rude awakening when you show up at the airport and they will not let you board with less than six months (from your scheduled return date - not your departure date). Tried to play that game going to Europe a couple years ago (had six months and 3 days remaining on passport but trip was five days). They would NOT issue me a ticket. Airline was Delta.
Mine was 5 1/2 months before it was expiring they let me go BUT I wouldn't risk it. Just have it rush if your trip is near by...
Very informative thread!!! Happened to our daughter on her honeymoon to Bali. They were fortunate enough to reroute to a domestic flight to Maui.
