We got a letter from the State Dept that Becca's passport application is held up because her birth certificate had a piece of tape on it. We leave on August 4th. ARRRRGGGHHH!
Oh dear. Don't you just love bureaucrats?!! :banghead: In Canada, if you need an expedited passport, you can get it in just a couple of days. Hopefully once the State Dept decides the birth certificate is A-OK, Becca will have her passport very quickly.
Wow! I hope everything turns out OK for you guys. That would be horrible to have a trip cancelled because of a delay in passport processing. I was pretty worried when we got our first passport, I think I received mine a week before we left (a few weeks later than the time that was quoted).
Call them and talk to somebody, they will do what they can to expedite it. We were in this same situation back right after they changed the passport laws & they had the huge backlog - we had sent in our kids applications a good four + months before travel & they had to expedite my oldest son's to get it back for us 4 days before we left. You also can make an appt to obtain one it in person: Where to Apply Leaving In Less Than Two Weeks? If you have international travel in less than 2 weeks or need to obtain a foreign visa within 4 weeks, you are eligible to schedule an appointment at a one of our regional passport agencies in the United States. You may be required to provide proof of your travel at certain regional passport agencies. See the individual agency pages for additional information. Will call service is offered for life/death emergencies and immediate travel. The agency will determine how best to return the passport in order to meet the customer's documented travel plans.
Thanks for the concern and replies, everybody. Looks like we have a solution. It will cost a bit, but found an outfit that will expedite the process, so we should have it early next week. Becca got her passport photo retaken, which is good, cause the first one looked like a wanted poster hanging in the post office!
I'm glad u cleared that up, the wanted poster remark I mean. We do travel with hand-cuffs,, just sayin':daveandmo:
