I'm just wondering if there's been a lot of people having issues with this. When we were last there (Oct 2008) was the first time we had an issue with our luggage being over weight. We had to pay $20 US for our luggage being a bit over. The funny thing is we were a bit over on the way down but brought toys and school supplies for the kids down there... so we got rid of a bunch of weight. Friends of ours just got back and had an issue also. So, have a lot of people been hit with this charge? Does Cancun air really weigh more? *L*
i just got back... i flew out sat.28..at the airport.. in line before you check in at the flight counter there is a scale where you can check the weight of your bag.. so you can take stuff out and put in your carry on or whatever..it should not surprise you how much your bag weighs when you get to the counter
We've either never noticed that scale or it's pretty new. We just found it odd that we were over weight since we actually came home with less things in our bags then when we left.
I actually noticed the last time I flew out that the weight limit was 50 lbs while coming in it was 60 lbs. This was through Delta both ways. Seemed a little shady to me.
On our second trip we were pretty damn close to the weight limit on the way down and we were chalked full of consumables like sun screen and shampoo etc. Even though we didn't bring most of that back with us we were quite surprised that our over all wieghts were up a couple of pounds. I attributed that to our clothes being damp from the humidity. Could have crappy scales on either end though, lol.
I bought a nice little luggage scale that you can pack in your luggage from Bed Bath and Beyound that makes it real easy to adjust your luggage wieght between your two bags and carry on so you don't get hit at the weigh in. It pays for itself the first time it saves you. I saw quite a few folks opening bags to remove stuff or put into other bags at the airport. Really holds things up
The second time we went to Cancun we were under going out and Les left a load of clothes behind and shoes etc, along with all sun cream etc...they tried to say we were over going back but Les called over the holiday rep and refused to pay... in all fairness they did eventually put our bags through but not without a fuss. We don't mind paying if it's genuine but we were at least 5kg under on each bag. This year we upgraded to premier seats and got 30kg each so there wasn't an issue
Ive been to Cancun the last 4 years in a row and every year I am over weight and I come back with less then I bring!!!!! it is very shady!!! I am going to be on the hunt for this scale for sure!!!
Our bags always weighed more coming home than going. Humidity is a factor. Last trip we did it with carry ons only. Quit trying to take everything we thought we might need or want. wgas
