As regulars at Temptation Cancun, we just returned from a week at Temptation Cabo (Nov 12-19). We were fortunate to have spent time with some terrific people. Two couples we knew from earlier trips to Cancun and some new people we met through Cancuncare.
Rather than a traditional trip report we’ll attempt to give our impression of the differences we perceived between the two resorts.

Los Cabos area vs. Cancun area:
The Los Cabos area offers the best chance of sunny weather in Mexico. It is, after all, a desert.
We prefer the airport at Cabo. It’s small but modern and efficient and the waiting time to be “processed” is likely to be less since there is less arrivals. The travel time to either resort is about the same. Area highways are clean and modern.
Temptation is located in the town of San Jose Del Cabo which is roughly 20 minutes from Cabo San Lucas, the larger centre. We prefer Cabo San Lucas over Cancun in terms of sightseeing, shopping and bar hopping. The marina area is beautiful. There’s more of a “Mexican Town” feel. There are lots of shops, bars and eateries to explore.
Fishing tours are great in Cabo. Snorkeling and diving, Lovers Beach and “The Arches” are a quick boat ride from the Marina in Cabo San Lucas.

    The Good:
Upkeep and cleanliness appeared to be equal to the Cancun location. The rooms are comparable to Cancun’s maybe even a little bigger. Booze quality is comparable. Neither resort serve top end liquor. If you have refined tastes buy your own. The Mega store is right across the street and has a reasonable selection. The beach in Cabo is much nicer than Cancun, if you are beach walkers. The resort does not try to bus guests out of the resort every night on bar hopping expeditions. We believe many people would prefer the pool restaurant lunch offering in Cabo over Cancun. There are buffet items as well as grilled meats, burgers, dogs, etc..

    The Bad:
Though the beach is nice, swimming is extremely dangerous and not recommended because of the severe undertow. Overall food quality and selection is not as good as Cancun. Cancun’s al a carte restaurants are much better. Because the resort is much smaller, the buffet selections are limited and only one a la carte restaurant is open each evening. Between 6:00 and 7:00 pm there is no food available anywhere. Night snacks are prepared cold sandwiches in a small cooler display on the bar (cheese or ham and cheese) rather than the popular burgers in Cancun.

    The Ugly:
There are potentially three bar areas at night; the central courtyard bar, the hot tub bar and the disco. The disco was closed when we were there so we can’t provide any feedback on it. In such a small resort two or three bar areas can really split the party up. Furthermore the seating in the main central court yard bar area consists mostly of groupings of low sofas, some with no backs. There are also a number of large round cushions and a few wicker style chairs. The result of the seating arrangement is that the guests are split into even small groupings and there is little opportunity to mix and mingle with new people.
The 360 night, on Fridays, irritated a number of guests. Basically it’s run by an outside company. They set up lighting and a DJ at the Hot Tub and sell tickets to people off the resort. Resort guest are told they are welcome. However, when we arrived we were told that most of the tables and seating areas were “reserved”. Most annoying is that they closed the courtyard bar at 11:00.
While there are outside “booze cruises” offered in the area they aren’t going to compare the Steve’s now world famous expeditions.

    The Pool:
Instead of the “Sexy Pool” and Quiet Pool” there is one central pool. In the morning they begin with soft classical music which slowly changes to easy listening pop and soft rock tunes. Around 11:00 am they begin a pool exercise class accompanied with a more techno sound. The afternoon and early evening progressively turns to louder and more “party” music which, in our opinion is more palatable than the music played in Cancun at the Sexy Pool. The afternoon games are much more subdued than Cancun. Mostly movie sound track trivia, etc..

    The Hot Tub:
If you enjoy hot tubbing you will probably enjoy this one. With room for at least thirty people it’s on a roof top overlooking the beach. There is a swim up bar. Seating areas are provided on an elevated floor space.

    Atmosphere:
There was very little if any of the “sexual energy”, party time vibe that is well known in Cancun. Cabo is a much more laid back resort. There are very few singles. Cabo is probably best suited for a planned trip of three or more couples who have travelled together before and enjoy vacationing together.

    Conclusion:
The weather in Los Cabos is great and much less humid than Cancun. However the resort is too laid back for us and we won’t return. We much prefer Paty’O’s for an evening of partying and meeting new people.

We have tried to be as un-biased as we can be and hope this is helpful for people trying to make a choice.

    Cheers,

    Partydollgirl & Brewster

Thanks for your TR, Brewster. I was at Cabo TTR in April, and will head to TTR Cancun for the first time in 5 days. Your review gives me a good idea of how things will be different in Cancun.

The only two things I experienced differently than you did at TTR Cabo was that most nights they had two speciality restaurants open (Asian and Italian) instead of one. The other thing was that we had a really good time at the Friday night party, as it was towards the end of the trip when we had made some friendships, and we all ended up in the rooftop Jacuzzi until the wee hours. I guess our friends got there early enough to get seats for all of us, but I agree that would be a drag to have to stand all night.

    Review of Cabo

Thanks so much for the review, but sure wish we had gotten it before we arrived. We arrived last night and like you already the atmosphere to be too quiet. Not that we are big party animals but we had expected a little more of a friendly sexy atmosphere and although last nights stripper and Lingerie show were "cute"... I wouldn't classify them as sexy. We are really hoping for a change in pace and will let you know how the week progresses...

Thanks for the trip report. As having been to both Cabo and Cancun ourselves, we agree with many of your observations. Maybe we will cross paths someday in Cancun!

Thank you for the TR...we were in Cancun last May and are considering going to Cabos in May 2012 but are having a tough time making our mind up. We really enjoyed the "sexual energy" you talked about in Cancun and I think we would really miss that in Cabos although the hot tub sounds like a lot of fun. Still have a few months to make up our mind.....Does anyone know what Cabos is like in early to mid May?

Perfect weather in may. As far as sexual energy goes it depends on who is there that week. You will enjoy it, most likely if you go

I think early May is Desire Week in Cabo. Weather is beautiful then, although I was in Cabo the last week of May one year, and the sand literally burned big blisters on my feet, it was so hot. We couldn't play volleyball unless they hosed it down. But early May should be better.
