rdubnpk I just heard a report that the new cap has stopped the leak of oil into the Gulf. We here in the Florida panhandle can barely contain ourselves!!! It's like Christmas, Mardi Gras, and a trip to TTR all in one...:mnm:
The cap is working but......you never know what our wonderful government will do. Their interference on this thing has been huge and I don't know what more will happen from our friends in Washington. Washington already ended up forcing BP to leave the well flowing into the Gulf for an extra 24 hours. That's our government at work!
It will take years to clean up the mess. Some of it will no doubt find it's way into the gulf stream and end up on the shores of Britain....
rdubnpk All that being said, please be aware that, as of now, the coastline of Florida and our beaches are still open and free of oil and/or tar balls from Santa Rosa county east. If you were planning to come, please come ahead. We could sure use the revenue and you will love the white sands and crystal clear waters.
You know thats a good thought, maybe spend our dollars there this year, rather than Mexico. As you've told me the weather there is really nice... might really have to give this some consideration. Thanks for the idea.
rdubnpk The only problem I see is that (I think) you said you usually go on vacation in December. In NW Florida, we do actually have seasons and the weather here can get quite brisk, even down to freezing on some days in December. Don't know if you Canadians could handle such cold weather!!! HA HA HA....Seriously, it does get a little chilly which may not be what you are looking for. May need to head closer to the equator.
rdubnpk They have opened the federal fishing waters north of us in the Gulf of Mexico and, amazingly, I heard that shrimping is being allowed in the waters around Louisiana again. Saw a shrimper this morning form there with his catch which looked OK, but he was real hesitant when asked if he would eat it or not. Louisiana was the most inundated area from everything I saw. More of their coastline was coated than anywhere else. Poor Louisiana just can't catch a break. We are all just waiting for BP to hightail it. Lots of stories going around about how hard it is to get claims paid. About what you would expect. President Obama came down with Michelle and one of his daughters to Panama City, about 60 miles west of us, this weekend to promote the area. He wouldn't come to my neck of the woods because, as a whole, it is farther right than Rush Limbaugh. The local elections are restricted to which particular Republican with the most "family values" do you want to vote for.
rdubnpk Heard a report on the news last night that a Pensacola, FL restaurant owner received a BP claim check, tried to deposit it , and found out it had a stop payment on it. Got a replacement check a couple of days later and guess what??? He was royally pissed and rightfully so.
