Ok, the Democratic campaign to determine their nominee is still in progress. I hope Michelle doesn't mind, but I'd like to post another recent controversy that appeared in Chicago with regard to Barack Obama she shared with me earlier. Perhaps start a conversation?...

By now I'm sure that you have heard about the guy who is selling t-shirts with Obama 08 on them and a picture of Curious George. If you haven't, click on the link below to read the article in the Tribune and see a picture of the t-shirt.

For some reason ALOT of people (black & white) don't see anything racist about the t-shirt. I don't know where any of you stand on the issue, but I vividly remember the 1st book in the Curious George series and it's clear to me why the guy chose Curious George and not Casper the friendly ghost as the mascot for his t-shirt. If you don't recall the first book in the series and/or slept through the story in Kindergarten, I refer you to the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia and their write up of Curious George.

Read the 1st paragraph, then scroll down to the section titled "the man with the yellow hat", read that section, then scroll down to the section titled "Interpretations" and read that entire section. Perhaps it will jog your memory.....or at least provide some insight as to why some people consider the choice of Curious George racist.

I don't mind.....but I take no responsibility for the fallout if the comments here get out of hand like they have on many other forums.

Clearly there are going to be people who read what I sent you and won't read the wikipedia excerpt, and will not not be in a position to comment "in perspective" due to the simple fact that they never bothered to click on the link and read what the REAL controversy actually is......

Ignorance isn't a matter of one being stupid, it's more a function of being unaware. Once someone is made aware, then the discourse becomes more meaningful and at least both parties are possessing a similar knowledge base to begin with. It doesn't mean that the two will ever agree on whatever the issue is, but at least the hostile, dismissive, one liners that enrage so many people are avoided.

So....with that....the floor is yours Michael.

    Michelle
