I know from being involved in previous threads that this is a touchy subject to say the least but we just got back and at least 10 of our friends and a couple of people we didn't know got sick at the resort. Spoke to someone who had gone to the pharmacy across the street and the pharmacist asked what are they doing over there? Apparently there had been many coming in looking for help. I wasn't feeling great a couple of days and my husband was very sick for one day and not great the next. AND NO IT WASN'T ALCOHOL RELATED. and we are also very careful of what we eat and drink lots of bottled water. It seems every year we run into this, it really sucks feeling sick when you are on holiday and it makes me reconsider going back. This was our fifth trip.. Anybody have any suggestions? Or comments?

From what I have read over the years, there is a bacterium in the food in Mexico that Gringo's systems are not used to. Depending on it's overall strength, and the amount you ingest, and also your immunity systems ability to fight it causes the "Aztec two step" Nothing against TTR at all here, in 7 trips there I have never been ill. IMHO I think the cleanliness at this resort in regards to handling the food is outstanding. In 10 trips to Pto Vallarta, I have gotten it 3 times, once in 2003 really bad, someting I would not wish on my own worst enemy. On the flip side, when Mexicans visit the US, they sometimes get ill from the bacterium in the food north of the border that their systems are not used to. Go figure.

No I know, it is definately nothing against the resort at all. We LOVE this place. When we came into the buffet Javier and Lucios both said "Hey, welcome home amigo!" We just wish we could figure out what to do to prevent it. This time took a product called "Dukoral" before we went that is supposed to help protect against ecoli contamination but I can't say that made a difference. My hubby took Cipro one time after he got sick. Just wish there was something we could do to prvent it from happening all together.

Just flu season, It is here too, and I am taking blood from alot of sick people. Add planes to the mix and well people get sick. Drink Sambuca as that stuff kills all germs. Use you own glass helps too.

Yeah so do you take it daily or only when you feel it or what? We asked our pharmacist here about that and he said no, that would be pointless. Also, I don't think you are supposed to drink or be in the sun when on Cipro?

the preventative dose for Cipro is 1/2 dose,, not recommended for healthy people.

Cipro is for Severe diahria and flu symptoms.

You can check last years thread Getting sick @ Temptation...

a huge bunch of us got REALLY sick. The resort would never admit to anything.

They were renovating the pool mechanics at the time ??? who knows?

One theory I had was the whipped cream in the pool , but not every one partook in such activities. There didn't seem to be a common thing we all did.

It seems to come in waves,, pardon the pun

We are advocates of vitamin supplements to keep immune system healthy. We takes hem all the time but will double up during our trip. Seems to always work.
