Steve - I think Thompson has been really badly advised by their own legal/financial advisers. :icon_rolleyes:

Here is the read by the US Dept of the Treasury of the new Mexico financial legislation

All the numbers and dates that Thompson are quoting jive with what is in the the US Dept of the Treasury Advisory. Thompson has somehow badly misinterpreted what this new legislation means to the traveling public.

I do agree with Thompson on one point - for those of us that don't reside in the USA it is better to exchange our own currency directly to Pesos to get the most for our hard earned vacation money

This kind of thing causes unnecessary anxiety for travelers: under the new rules they can still exchange up to $1500 USD at banks during a one month period, or all at once; they can still charge services and purchases to their credit cards and get pesos from ATM machines which are everywhere. How can this be much of a burden to the traveling public?

Businesses in tourist areas of Mexico can bank a maximum of $7000 US a month.

I noticed a sign in McDonald's stating they don't accept USD. Went to Xplor on Saturday and they were accepting dollars.

Just get pesos or use a card and no problem.
