This may be an obvious answer to you veterans but this will be my first trip to a resort in Cancun. Should I just bring US Dollars or should I get Pesos before I arrive. Does the Staff have a preference when tipped? Also any other tips for traveling to Cancun would be helpful. Thank you in advance, I am looking forward to meeting what seems like a lot of Fun People! Nov 29 - Dec 6
Welcome! You arrive the same day as us, this will be our second time. We only ever used USD at the resort (tips), but if you plan on buying from the little shops on the island or such, pesos are probably better because they can pull a fast one on ya with the conversion. See you not soon enough! :aetsch004:
The US dollar is OK to use for tips! They are happy to accept it! But like Steve has pointed out. That they can't use the US dollar to pay their bills so the Peso would be idea for them. I usually use US and if I get any Peso bills. I'll use them as well! :icon_cool:
For us if I have any US Bill I'll use them if not then I just order some pesos from my bank ( since I'm in Canada ).. They accepted US, but as Steve already said,They can't pay their bill and rent with us, so if you can use pesos that will be better for them. It's like going in the us but pay everything in canadian.. You'll prefer for me to pay you in us and same thing for you if you're coming in canada. well it's the same thing for them... Also, you can have better deal if you're paying in pesos + you don't have the worry for the conversion, it's harder when you dealing with 2 currency at the same thing to count everything. Just my .02 $ .
We always just bring $USD and get change in pesos. So, just mak sure you bring lots of little bills for tipping, like lots of $1 and occasionally a $5 if you get a guy/gal you like and want to remember you.
