Did anyone else notice this? As of April 4th, Westjet has changed what you can bring for a carry on.

Before you could bring 2 carry on bags weighing not more than 10 kg (22 pounds) each, plus a personal item (like a laptop or purse). I actually thought it was only one bag, but I guess I was wrong.

Now you can only bring ONE of the same max size carry-on bag as before, but the only weight limitation is that you have to be able to hoist the sucker into the overhead bin unassisted (yes, really, that's what it says on the website). So now you can't help your 100-yr-old granny hoist her 50 lb carry on suitcase into the overhead bin...you have to just stand back and cheer her on lol.

You still get a personal item plus another item from a specified list e.g. duty free, diaper bag, food for consumption on the plane, and (important for me) HATS.

    Check it out:

    No changes for checked baggage.

just sounds like different wording, other airlines is 1 carry on and 1 backpack/bag/ ( forget the max dim) it has to go under the seat,

Sometimes the over heads get so full on the small planes they check your carry on any way

Well, there is definitely no longer a weight restriction to 22 lbs on the carry on bag, which is good, as I will jam all my heavy stuff in there except for toiletries.

Air Canada is about the same , but still 22 pounds, but that is irrelevant since I have never had my carry on weighed.

Having 40 or 50 pound carry ons in the overhead some how does not make me feel safe.

LOL...neither does having a 4'9" granny trying to swing her 50-lb suitcase over my head and into the bin above me!

We have had carry on's weighed both in Mexico and in Edmonton. Just random weighings.

Flying from Uk we have 5kg of Hand held and 23kg, this time last year 15kg, of hold luggage. Also at the airport here they have messuring devices for the size of bag and not unknown for them to weigh the hand held either.

Westjet always weighs my carry-on suitcase. But that's probably because it's an actual suitcase, as opposed a beach bag or some other personal item. And because I look high-maintenance enough to have 50 lbs of platform heels in it ha ha
