...or do they? http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/dollarcoin.asp Would it be a surprise to anyone that someday finally the powers that be will be moved to strike that phrase from all minted or printed currency?
It would be a surprise because people in this country are afraid of changing anything that has existed for that long, regardless of logic.
But the phrase is still on paper currency, right? I find USA currency at least stays consistent ... we have so many different images on our coins it is hard for us to know what is what! Especially quarters - there is the "regular" quarter with the moose, still see some of the old RCMP quarters, then there was the breast cancer coin and the poppy coin with the pink ribbon and red poppy respectively, then one for each province, a WWII vet coin, and now coins for each sport in the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympics! And I'm sure I missed a few in this list ... Yesh ... but at least we stay consistent with the queen on the back.
OR - you could have a coin with IGWT only and nothing else see article http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/213-03142007-1313644.html Picture: http://cdn.news.aol.com/aolnews_photos/06/01/20070314004009990001
Please take the time to do this! We Christians are not winning! Here's your chance to let the media know where the people stand on our faith in God, as a nation. NBC is taking a poll on "In God We Trust" being removed from our American currency. Please send this to every Christian you know so they can vote NO on this important subject. Please do it right away, before NBC takes this off the web page. MSNBC poll is still open so you can vote. Click on the link below.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10103521/ sent by a friend...
Personally, I really don't care if it is on there or not. As an athiest, I still don't give a rats ass if the word god is on there. But, since there is more than one active religion in our country, why should only one be represented and not others? If the answer is "well it's just tradition", why are religious groups getting their panties in a knot about it? I just don't see why religious people get in an uproar about stuff like this. How does this affect your personal faith? If the word 'god' was not on our money would you suddenly become a heathen barking at the moon and practicing the dark arts?
Lambert13 you may not believe in god, but america was formed on the fundamentals of God. America was created with him in mind. If you remove god from our society it would be total chaos. As god is removed from our schools look at all the violence that now occurs. Our children loss the fear of god and the morals that are thought with him. So whether you believe in him or not believe that without the "fear of god" society would have no reason to maintain order. The mentally would turn to why live by the rules this is my one life I'll live it they way I want. So believe or not, Believe his presence is needed.
I see it differently. I see the violence in schools as being a product of the failure of parents to raise their children the right way. Whether that involves god of not. The argument that without the "fear of god" does not make sense to me either. People need the fear of "god" in order to behave? Me for example. I don't believe in god or any religion for that matter. I have no fear of what will happen when I die in regards to an afterlife of any sort. Somehow I manage to go about my day without harming anyone or being a social deviant. I think that it is basic human nature to be kind, compassionate and care about your fellow human beings. but america was formed on the fundamentals of God That is not even close to true. While some of the founding fathers were of the Christian faith they sought to create a government that was not based on religion in order to move on from the governments of Europe that were still using religion as an oppressive tool and supposedly justifying their power by claims of "divine right" God, Jesus, and all that are not mentioned anywhere in our Constitution. That was an intentional aspect drafted by our founding fathers. They were not abandoning their faith, they were separating it from the government. I am not trying to create an argument here at all by the way. I enjoy the debate and would love to keep it going as long as we can all keep it civil.l
By no means am I trying to start an argument. Although you alone may not need the fear of god, you have to consider that the majority of people need to have something to believe in. Think of it like this, we all have heard of "mob mentality". If a group of 30 people start a riot and causing destruction because they believe they won't get caught there is no consequences from the law that riot can quickly grow to hundreds untill the law regains its control. We have all seen this happen. Now if you take away the believe in a greater power than man, the believe that if you a good person that after life there is something even better for you, there will be people who start to live a "riot" as there is no greater power to regain there control these groups they will continue to grow like weeds. They will grow to a point that is beyond law and order. It will be good vs evil at war for control of the world. It is not my attempt to make you believe in god that is your choice, but to point out that without him the world would come undone. Not by one person who doesn't believe but by a mass angry that they lived a life for him when he was a lie. It is just my opionion, that is why we are afraid to take in god we trust away.
I think i see your argument there miked, but i'm with lambert13 - government and religion should really be kept at arms length from each other!
