I have not read all of this stuff but one thing jumps out at the first link, which says "In short, Aduana has raised the limits from $75 USD to $300 USD exempt from duties for non-personal items",

This is NOT the case. $300 has been the amount allowed for many, many years. When you go to the Read the Full Article part, the translated version states that "they are extending the exemption from 75 to $ 300". I interpret this as that there is something in place for the $300 exemption and that the exemption continues ("are extending") this amount. But $300 US has been in play for the 20 years that I have been coming and going.

I am interested in checking out the car importing costs but I am too tired to dig out my VIN number and I don't want to be angry at bedtime if the cost is a frigging joke.

    Hey Kathy,

It does not seem that it would be any harder than shipping a car back, which a few friends have done (using Hyde) without issues.

Did you speak with Orlando and what did he say?

What makes you say " it seems very hard to ship boat back:("?

Is it big enough to make an open water run with a fuel stop in Cuba?

If not too late I would still check with Orlando at Hyde in Pt Everglades before parting with $300 based on what that (off) Nader office told you. I am pretty sure that is not Hyde's office, rather an agent that handles their incoming "shipments". But I have not shipped from CUN-FLL ever so am not 100% certain if they actually have an office here now.
    HYDE SHIPPING
    Orlando Lopez: (305) 913-4926
    ORLANDO LOPEZ
    (305) 913-4926

    Good luck

    Kathy,

That is a number for Orlando Lopez at Hyde Shipping, not Orlando, FL. I am not sure I understood your question.
