I am happy to announce that Dr. Mauricio Grassi is now working at the American Smile Clinic across from Market 28. Not only is he a very good dentist, but he speaks English, Spanish, French and Italian. He started right before Wilma did, and I am very pleased to see that, not only has he had quite a few patients, but that he has had Referrals from those patients. Our Dental Clinic is kind of a Mom and Pop operation... the same type of operation we had in the states for 13 years. We understand the fears almost everyone has about the dentist and the patients comfort and well-being is our first priority. The Clinic is American owned and operated. Our materials come from the US. Our prices are local prices...for those of you that haven't visited a dentist in awhile, now's your chance! If you come into the office for a cleaning, we offer a free exam and x-rays. The office phone number is 887-4521. Laura, the secretary, speaks Spanish, but if you need English, call me at 99 88 60 40 21. I am very hands-on in the office and will help to answer any questions you might have.

Thanks for the info cancunnurse, I was just thinking the other day that it's time for a cleaning. But yes, I am a wimp! My dentist back in Canada would laugh at me, but would kindly pull out the gas for my cleaning, hand me some headphones with Elvis playing and have someone sit and hold my hand. Wimp!

Once I get up the courage, I'll give you a call for sure. How much for a cleaning, ahem, with gas if possible (if you feel comfortable posting that here). Again, thanks!

Have no fear CancunCanuck! We're here to help! A cleaning is $500 pesos and that will include your x-rays and examination. Just mention that you were referred through Cancun Care. Unfortunately, we don't have nitrous oxide in the office right now...it has been very difficult to find here in Cancun. We do understand patient's anxiety and that's another wonderful thing about Dr. Mauricio....he is a very patient man. We want to eliminate the "white knuckle grip" that so people have
because of this fear. In the US and Canada, a dental visit was every 6 months to a year. Unfortunately, down here, I know people that have'nt seen a dentist since they moved here. We are trying to change that by promoting good dental care. As I said, I am very hands on and if you need me, I will come hold your hand! You can do it!

    Hi Kelly,
I can totally understand where you are coming from. My husband is a specialist in Endodntics (28 years now) but has studied TMJ extensively and has a very high success rate (he fixed my TMJ problem 18 years ago and now I only have flare-ups under extreme stress!). Unfortunately, he is still not licensed here in Mexico (they tell us any minute now...for the last 2 years!). I would highly recommend an appointment with him. He is able to work if Dr. Mauricio is there with him...He still has an office in NY so he commutes back and forth, so the times he is here are kind of limited.
As far as the cleaning goes, maybe we can make you 2 appointments...one for the top cleaning and then the bottoms. Going to the dentist once a year is hard enough but twice in a week...YUCK! But I'm sure after so long, you would want to know what's going on...little cavities turn into painful root canals!
Dr. Mauricio is very kind and accomodating. When you are ready, call me at 99 88 60 40 21. I can help you to coordinate things. Good dental care and treatment are our priorities! There is no reason you have to suffer anymore.

Sure....Saturday mornings are fine. My husband will be in town this week. Would you want an appointment with him for the TMJ consultation? What he would do would be to check and balance your bite first and see how things play out. This would be a good time because he will be here for the whole week so he can keep tabs on you...when you have pain, what activities cause it, etc.
Just let me know. You can see the clinic and meet Mauricio and kind of move along slowly. We're here to work with you!...Nancy

    American Smiles Trip Report

We were in Cancun and my fiancé Suz had a flare up of a tooth due to scuba diving pressures and was in extreme pain. Both doctors at American Smiles treated her. We can tell you the care was very good and Cancunnurse's husband especially was very talented and a real character. He did a root canal and a partial root canal for Suz, and the results were wonderful. We were able to continue our vacation uninterrupted. He called her repeatedly to make sure she was fine. We wouldn't hesitate a minute to recommend him. This was just this past January.

Thanks, Tom, for your nice words and wonderful recommendation! And you pegged it...my husband is a character but he's happy to hear that Suz is feeling better.

Cancun nurse, yes Suz knows her way around a dental office and doctors. She is an RN and has been a oral surgens nurse and office manager for his practice in Northbrook, Illinois for 30 years. So when she says Jerry is good she knows what she is talking about! Plus I was able to talk to him a little about what I do for a living and appreciated his interest. He's a good guy.

My husband did mention that you had an interesting job. Only problem is, his name is Andy, not Jerry, but he says hi and was happy to hear that all is well with you both!
