A little background knowledge to help us with our dilemma: My wife and I have been to the TTR Cabo 2 times. I know that they are night and day different, or so everyone I have spoken with has said. We are currently booked at TTR Cancun from December 21-28th of this year. We book under the idea that it would be a party to end all parties and good weather. We assumed it would be similar to the Caymans, where we normally spend our holidays.

We would like some ideas to either help ease our concerns or guide us to a more suitable option. We don’t want to change our reservations; the opportunity just came about on its own right when we were having concerns.

    Concerns on our end:
*The weather can be quite cool which in-turn does not allow the pool to heat up, and thus makes it less than desirable to jump in the pool at 10 am, or even noon for that matter
*The beach is rumored to have, at times, broken glass and an abundance of kelp/seaweed, as well as a slight odor of fuel. With the pool not an option until later on the beach would be our place to post for a few hours.
*There has been a sickness that has been traveling around the resort that has caused some people to spend a day or two glued to the toilet or mattress. There has been discussion that it is a result of the food, some say the ventilation, some claim it is a result of the staff living in flooded conditions caused by the recent storm and brining the sickness with them, while others say it is traveling around all of Cancun
*The overall quality of the facilities themselves have been deteriorating quite rapidly, hopefully the remodel has begun with the start of Paty-O’s
*There is not much information provided here, or anywhere else for that matter on the volume of people that got to TTR over the Christmas holiday. From what I have read it is the people that make the trip and if there are not that many people going the odds of the right people going diminish drastically.
*There is not much information as to what, if anything special, TTR does for the holiday.
*We do not know if the Boob Cruise will be going on. That is one thing we are really looking forward to, and to be honest it might be our deal breaker. We have even purchased the whipped cream alcohol to try at home as a result of the rave reviews.

(I am getting my info from the vanilla crowd on tripadvisor, other review sites and here on CCC)

Those are a ton of concerns. I am in no way bashing the hotel, I have just never been there and if I am going to get me wife Away from seeing her parents in the Caymans, it better be worth it or she is going to give me hell! :aktion047:

A happy wife is a happy life.

Thank you all for your help and hopefully we can have our concerns alleviated.

    Chris and Candy

I (Andrew) have s little insight for you, make of it what you will.

I have been to Grand Cayman many times, the weather is almost the same. The sun heated pools on Cayman aren't very nice to get into until the mid to end of March either. Plus if you do go off resort prices are a hell of a lot cheaper than Cayman. Also, native Mexicans are a hell of a lot more appreciative of tourists than native Caymanians.

We have never really used the beach but its a resort, do you really think tourists cutting themselves on glass is good for business? It's by a marina, that being said I've never noticed an of odour and I have sensitive sense of smell. There is seaweed/kelp but they clear a spot to swim.

Sickness happens everywhere there's a large group of people from diverse locations.

The quality is fine, we've been to a few all inclusives and TTR is among the best.

You always take a chance on Boobs cruises on the slower months.

TTR is what you make it. Go with an open mind, say hello to as many people as possible, bring AIWC, meet people on the forum.

The resort is full many months of the year, that should tell you how good it is. The people of this forum all love it.

    Have a fantastic trip!

The resort is fine but the pool is cooler in Dec. Doesn't mean that you won't spend time in it, you'll just need a drink or two first. The sickness well it was flu season and we didn't experience it much in December. We have gone twice in december and the weather was just fine. The rooms are fine too. Don't stress, we have been to Cabos too and it is very similar except a better party both day and night. The people well that is what makes this place. Enjoy. By the way we have done 17 trips with 18 coming up.

We have been to Cabo and liked it, however we love TTR Cancun. We usually go at the beginning of December and have only been out of the pool one day due to coldness. The rest of the days we were always at the swim up bar. The sun goes down early and the pool area certainly cools down. Thats my time to go in for a snooze in order to party it up at Patio's come night.
The hotel it's self is in need of some updating but other than that it is in good condition and very clean. The staff make sure it is kept up and are very pleasant all the time.
I noticed this past Dec, a lot of sea weed on the beach. They do have someone that rakes it up every day...that is something beyond the resorts control. I've swam in the ocean each year and enjoy the temp. of the water. I've only smelled the fuel once when there was a seado that was being repaired.
I was told that I wouldn't like this resort and I read things on Trip Advisor that made me very afraid. My husband was in the same boat you are in with talking me into the trip. I'm so happy that he talked me into it as we have been 4 times and I'm counting down till our next visit. I love it and I think you and your wife will too.
Go, have fun, meet people and enjoy.....

On the theme of being there for Christmas, why not treat your worries like a dreaded gift you receive every year from neurotic parents, family, or friends and which you now wish to exchange for the self assurance required to have the best time ever no matter where you go and whatever might happen.

We do not control life's circumstances but we can define our reaction to them. So go play with the big kids at the sexy pool and be home by New Years with your plan to return to TTR as soon as possible. You don't know till you go!

We too started at Temptation Cabos before venturing to Temptation Cancun - Been to Cancun twice now.

    Differences:
150 rooms versus 385 rooms: Cancun is just plain BIG! Its hectic, its busy, its not as relaxing. Lines at the bar, difficult to get seating, no beds around the pool, service is not as personable or attentive, no rainbow shots. Oh, and no hot tub!

Cabos also had a west coast vibe, Cancun is much more Midwestern & East coast, and the vacationers personalities play into the different vibe.

Cancun has an ocean you can swim in, its tropical and warm. We made it a point to swim out the buoys daily and go for a 2-person kayak in the late afternoon. Beach is powdery white sand as well, not rocky at all. There is a good bit of seagrass which feels creepy on your feet but you get over it quick. Its not a fantastic beach as its in between two marinas but its decent. The lounge chairs and beach beds are numerous with lots of space on the beach.

Due to the high volume of guests, the upkeep in Cancun is a bit behind. Rooms in Cancun are smaller (no couch in your room) compared to Cabos and the rooms vary quite a bit depending on which building they put you in. AC is cold, hot water is hot and your rarely in your room so its not a big deal.

Food is very different, we liked the Asian restaurant the best but do encourage you to try the Grouper if you like fish at the Italian & Seafood restaurants. No teppanyaki like in Cabos. The steak & grilled shrimp is also good. We liked the buffet best for lunch, hit the grill and get the fresh made tacos or other Mexican favorites. The Mexican food for breakfast was also very good, the American food was so-so.

We have not been for Christmas but do know its in the "high season" so the rates are more, therefore we'd expect a good sized crowd.

The sun is bright and warm early after Daylight Savings time - so get to the pool early, it starts to get windy and cool down a bit after 3pm, but the early morning sun is fantastic.

The club scene off the resort is excellent as well, not a 45-minute drive like in Cabos. No Mega & Starbucks just across the street but there are 2 convenience stores within a few blocks.

TTR Cancun is a party resort, way more party & upbeat than Cabos!

Cancun TTR is great - the people and activities make the trip. Its not a 4* resort, we classify it as a solid 2.5* to 3* resort and the prices reflect that. So let loose, relax and have a great time. Yes, there will be things that could be better but nothing is bad and you will have a fantastic time!

If you have any specific questions - PM us - we will be happy to give you our unbiased opinion.

I've been too 2 different resort in Cancun! But I travel ALOT! I saw all kind of hotel you can imagine, even one with the exterior door can't lock!! ;)

All rhe sickness was only flu season, take vitamins C bring immodium, gravol, tums , vitamins and you should be ok! People bring flu in cancun and one give it to others!

I went there and the 3 first day I was in my jaket with jeans and shoes was about 20 degres at noon! ( about 75-76 ) was SO cold and that is not common for cancun! Even in december it's warmer than that!

So Far TTR is THE BEST resort i've been and the best hotel I've been! Isn't a RIU but people make it a five stars!
I don't go there for food or room! Also the only hotel I saw more clean it was a four point by sheraton in the us!! No Worrie :)

Don't be scared heaven the weather isn't that bad, compare sometime to here in winter!! Riding snowmobile at minus 40 not nice!!

Like everyone else said, leave shy at home :) and just be the one you will never be at home!

We are all repeaters :) and Even I think i'll go there for a LoNG lonG time :)

    Have fun and relax :)

    Couple of (objective) opinions:

I'd agree that the weather is relatively cool in December, so the pool doesn't get that warm either. That's fine with me - I prefer it to be cool. It's still warmer than your typical summer's day, but not crazy hot all day. I've personally never had a problem of not being able to get in the pool, even on the cool days, but I know some have issues with it.

The beach is immaculate. No broken glass (that's a blatant lie), no garbage, and very little seaweed. You can smell the boats the closer to the docks you get, but most of the chairs are placed away from this area. There's loads of chairs down near the quiet pool area of the beach that aren't anywhere near the boat dock. I think complaints about the beach are from people who didn't do their homework and scope out where TTR is situated. They were possibly expecting the crashing waves and long stretches of sand, but because of it's location and position on the north part of the hotel zone, TTR is in a relatively sheltered spot and doesn't get that like other hotels along the main strip. For me a good beach is a deal breaker, and I've no issue with TTR's beach.

I've never experienced sickness whilst at TTR. I think your odds at getting sick there are similar to odds for your average vacation. The great thing about TTR in December is that it's low humidity, so the nights are perfect, not too hot, and low moisture in the air. Barely needed to use the air con at night so no problems with that.

Quality of the facilities low? I disagree. Facilities are excellent, everything you'd ever need is right there for you. The staff keep it clean and tidy. Plus, in my opinion, it's all modern and definitely not deteriorating.

I've heard that TTR is popular (and expensive) over the Christmas holiday. There doesn't appear to be a main 'cancuncare' group of repeaters that go over Christmas though. That doesn't mean you're not going to get a great bunch of folks going, just maybe not a set of steady repeaters like you get for other months.

RE Boobs Cruise, do a search for Boobs Cruise roll calls for the past couple of years around your dates. That'll give you an idea if cruises were organised during that week. Without a strong repeater presence you might well be right in thinking there might not be a cruise that week. It's all based on numbers for when they're organised.

Hope my objective opinion helps somewhat.

Thanks everyone for your replys. I think we are sticking with TTR. I wanted the sexy atmosphere and I'm going to keep it that way.

Really hope the boob cruise gets going, but still going to make the best of it if it doesn't happen.

Thanks again, and I hope we won't be the only 2 with the orange wrist bands on.
