My car with California Plates was confiscated. My boyfriend who is Mexican was driving without me in the car...I know, I know! Anyhoo, its been a month now and was wondering if anyone knew approximately how long this process takes. Our "lawyer" says he is waiting on the oficio from PGR. Im at my wits end, dont know who to trust anymore and Im becoming desperate. Hacienda does not have the car as of yet.

Sorry to hear that.. I've known it could happen, but most times the cops are more interested in making a quick buck than going thru the hassle of having it confiscated... I see Mexican (appearing) people in foreign cars all the time here. This was in Cancun or where? In any event, from what I understand of the law (for what that's worth in Mexico) they aren't obligated to return the vehicle... if adjuna hasn't gotten possession of it yet, that would make me think that the local police are hoping you'll come and "negotiate" for its release. Good luck and let us know what happens...

Just super curious as my car is registered in FL. Did they just kick him out of the car and take it? Did they give any kind of ticket, receipt or anything? Were you able to recover any personal property that may have been in the car?

Life is right. As I understand it, Aduana has no obligation to return it. Confiscation is confiscation.

I am just wondering if your poor car is even around Cancun any longer. The cops could very well have given it to a friend or brother, have a stolen tag on it and be long gone.

I would not be happy or optomistic about this situation.

This same thing happened to a lady about 6 years ago with a new Jeep Cherokee. Needless to say she NEVER seen her car again!

The federales initially stopped my bf because of the foreign plates. They then took him to jail for two days and have kept the car. I have documentation that the car is in their posession and yes, he was able to get our personal belongings from the car. I had an appointment on Monday at GPR to testify that the car is in fact mine and I want it back. I am now waiting for SAT to tell me if I may get my car back. Today is a new day and I trust everything will be alright. If not...off to plan B. The law is the law and we did not abide. I have to live with the outcome now.
