My bank just called...and said that VISA has notified them that my debit card has been possibly 'comprimised' and possible fradulant charges are appearing... They are sending me a statement showing the charges...and sending a new card, canceled the old...etc....since we moved, we kept our old bank because we have a great relationship built with them. Funny (or not so funny) is that I haven't used that card in probably 2 weeks. Its in my wallet. The only online purchases I have made over the holiday season that wasn't a gift card was through www.abercrombiekids.com and www.kohls.com ....wonder if thats where they (or whoever) got my information from.... They show my bank account -18.97....they will cover any checks I have written (thank goodness) and that as soon as I get the statement to verify what I charged and didn't charge, they will credit my account immediately. She said not to worry, that all of our checks would be fine and covered until this is resoloved. Whew! I love my bank.
I don't know...possible I guess....who knows...I'm just glad we have an awesome bank to take care of us.
We had another experience somewhat similar to yours in the sense that one late Saturday a.m., we got a call from my wife's credit card company's fraud unit. They said that earlier that a.m. the card had been used to make a couple of purchases, but it had not been "activated" yet. Well, we never received the new card (the old one was about to expire), so it was obvious it had been stolen from the mail. The company quickly terminated the card and reissued another with a whole diff. number. We were not made responsible for the charges made to the original card. I then called my own credit card company and bank to have them change my own card numbers in case that information had been stolen from the mail at the same time. No issues from anyone.
Well thats good. They are suppose to be sending us both new cards...even though Kevin hasn't used his at all...because it just got activated...we had only one card to the account for so long.... But it was definitely my card, not his....and mine was due to 'expire' March 2007...so I've carried it for awhile. It was getting hard to run through some machines.
Out of curiousity, what bank do you deal with Tonya? I use US Bank and they called me a few weeks ago about a similar situation. Only it wasn't Visa telling them it was them noticing the activity on theacoount and questioning it because of my previous spending habits.
That is so scary....you are so lucky to have a bank that "knows" you and your spending habits....keep us posted :!:
its Liberty National Bank....she said VISA contacted them...so I dont' know....I will be in touch this week with them anyway...I'll find out more info, especially after I get my statement to review. I was holding a whiney, sleepy 8 month old when they called, so I wasn't completely in tune with every word she said...but I did get that much....
Two Fridays ago was my hobo dinner. I was out shopping to prepare for the meal, and on my last purchase, my card was denied and I was asked to call the CC compnay. Even though there was many people in line, I was upset more than embarassed, as I know there was room for a $150 charge for steak knives. I called the CC company and they said they had to suspend my card because they suspected fraudulent activity. I played the embarassement card and reminded them this is the third time it's happened that they've cancelled my card and I've had to find out the hard way. I work with the fraud department to the point that they are notified of my travel schedules and are informed when I will be making $5k purchases or greater when at home. The very least they can do is make the effort to notify me if my card is going to be suspended. Being in a rush to prepare dinner for 20+ people, stuck in long holiday lines, stuck on hold with the CC company and getting transferred to person to person, I got frustrated. When the rep came back on, I said "forget it, just cancel my card". He said he couldn't do it, and that I'd have to be transferred to someone else. I told them I will wait 15 seconds - if I'm stuck on hold, I will hangup and they'll never hear from me again. Long story short, 9 seconds later a new rep comes on, apologizes for the inconvenience, offers me 10k points and 1 year membership fee ($399) to keep my card. Longer story even shorter, I'm still a cardholder with an extra 25k points and this year and next years membership fees have been waived.
I have the same thing happen to me. It was at the BBG at few years ago. We arrived at the front desk and since I was booked as a travel agent I had to pay directly to the front desk upon arrival. When they went to charge my cc it came up declined. Well, what kind of a idiot would travel 2000 miles and not have the dough to pay for a hotel. The front desk was kind enough to call the international phone number and speak (in spanish) to the international desk who advised them that they had suspended the card due to suspisious (sp) activity. (I personally find this to be weird being that we travel quite a bit... but whatever) Long story short we had the card reactivated, paid, and got checked in, but it was really scary since we were in Mexico soo far away from home. Side note... that same trip our card number ended up being stolen by a car company representative, but that was atleast 4 days later than the suspension of the card.
