Good morning all, We want to make anyone that attended the Montreal Mayhem tour to be aware that apparently someone along the line stole our Credit Card info. We know of at least two others couples that were there that have also had their information compromised. As near as we can tell, it had to have happened at the hotel. We are not casting blame on the hotel, it just seems to be where it took place. Our credit card company was great and the charges were removed( in excess of 2K). Please check your credit card statements carefully for any unusual activity from that time period. This definitely put a damper on an otherwise great weekend.
So sorry to hear this hopefully it was a credit card vs a debit card that got compromised and all the funds were refunded. Most if not all credit card company's will issue you a refund and a new card# and you lose nothing except the use for the credit card for a short time until the new card arrives. Having a debit card compromised the hackers have the ability to suck all your funds out of your personal banking accounts and generally this will take much more time to get refunded if it happens at all. Make sure to set up account alerts on all your cards, example when we purchase fuel I have a alert on my phone before I hang up the pump nozzle that fuel was purchased. The bank we use for personal banking has a app to turn our debit/ATM cards on or off and it's always set to off until we use it, Discover card has a similar feature to freeze the card. We rarely if ever use the debit card and pay everything with credit cards and always clear the credit cards at the end of the billing cycle to avoid charges just because our cards pay us to use them and it's a lot more secure. If and when we use the debit card it's only at banks and never at a stand alone ATM or business. T
Our credit card was only used to book the hotel and was compromised as well. Yes our money was returned to us. Whomever had tried to purchase over $800.oo online with Hudson Bay Company. You never know....
We only used a card at the Montreal hotel also, and our card was also compromised. One charge was to Austria, two attempted orders to Gymboree, and something having to do with Online marketing. Damn thieves! Would love to catch whoever did this. Obviously the card was shut down and replaced.
Ours was online charges to a company in Hong Kong... my bank only allowed one charge to go through before flagging us and I noticed it within 24 hours anyway It was a Visa Debit card for us so it kinda works like both a cc and debit card (Canadian here). Regardless, it was less than $100 and the money was returned within 48 hours. They attempted thousands of dollars more but my bank shut it down with one weird looking transaction. I assumed it was the machine in the lobby because I took out cash for the meet & greet but now it sounds more like it was the hotel itself maybe. Sounds like someone shady is working at the hotel
We have no doubt that it happened at the hotel. We aren't sure it was an employee, it sure could have been thou. With today's technology and the ability for scammers to read your card in your pocket, who knows who the true culprit was. Our bank was great and gave us an alert immediately to the activity. Simple phone call, my card was cancelled, fees reversed and a new one was sent out. Luckily for us, the wives card number was different from mine so we still had use of a cc until the new one arrived days later.
I'm not sure which hotel was used for the Montreal tour, but there have been a lot of credit card data breaches in the travel industry lately. The last two that I saw reported were for IHG (Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza, Staybridge, and InterContinental) and then the SABRE system which does about 32,000 hotels.
Sorry to hear this but glad everyone's card companies are covering it. Big Nathan also had his car stolen from the parking lot on the first night. No problem for us thankfully. Maybe they don't like British credit cards
