You can exchange dollars for pesos at the front desk but you won’t need to. Most places are glad to honor the dollar and convert it for you.
Tips – You want to bring about $50 in $1 bills with you for tips at TTR. The drinks are free but it is well known that you want to tip to take care of the staff that is taking care of you.

We were just there for a week. We only used US dollars and never had a problem inside or outside the resort.

We were there very recently we took £200 in Dollars ask for small dollar notes, and £400 in Pesos. We got all our cash from our local Thomas Cook Travel Agency.

We found a cashpoint that gives out Dollar notes, and we also used a cashpoint to give out Pesos. We found it useful to take both currency.

When you leave Mexico we were told that you could not use dollars for your exit tax, they only accept Pesos or Sterling. The exit tax was £76 Sterling. So make sure you keep enough back!

    Hope this helps you :)

£76 Sterling Tax for two people £38 Sterling each! But you can only pay in Sterling or Pesos they do not accept Dollars in your exit tax!

    Sorry for the little confusion.

We tipped in Dollars and Pesos both accepted readily, and used a conversion factor that 50 pesos is equivalent to 5 Dollars!

    Caz :)

Exit (departure) tax is payable separately for Brits. For most flights from the US and Canada it's included in the cost of your ticket.
