    Hi,
We are visisting Mexico from the UK for the first time in June and will be staying at the Gran Bahia -Tulum resort in Riviera Maya. (so excited!)

Looking for help on the following:

Should we take America Dollars or Pesos (or both)?
How far is the Xplore Park from my resort. What would a taxi cost to get there?
Should I book tours before or after arrival?
How far into Riviera Maya / Cancun for nightlife? Any suggestions on where to Drink eat?

Any help for a first timer welcome!

    Many Thanks
    Darren :xyxthumbs:

    Hi Darren,

You are going to love Mexico!:bandit:

First of all, both dollars and pesos are fine. In the larger cities like Cancun and Playa del Carmen, they take dollars everywhere. I've never been to Tulum, but I'd be pretty confident it's the same there.

I don't know the distance from Tulum to Xplor, but it's a very fun place to visit. The zipline courses take about 2-3 hours alone, depending on crowds, then there are the ATVs and underground rivers to explore. I also really enjoy Xcaret right next door to Tulum, which is more laid back and "cultural."

Either way, I'd wait and book when you get there. The pre-booking savings don't seem that significant, and sometimes you just want to go with the flow on holiday.

As to nightlife, Playa del Carmen where we've stayed is a good-sized town with lots of fun clubs--including a Coco Bongo--that's roughly halfway between Cancun and Tulum (about a 30 minute cab ride south of Cancun). You might find it easier to go there for nightlife. Luna Blue, Bad Boyz Beach Club, and Blue Parrot are all fun places there.

    Enjoy your trip planning!

    Welcome. :)

Number one, pesos all the way, don't even bother with dollars. This is not the United States, it is Mexico, use the currency of the country.

Number two, Xplor is AWESOME, book ahead and transportation can be included from your hotel.

Tulum has some nightlife, but really you'll have to go to Playa del Carmen for big party party. Sometimes Tulum has beach party festivals at night though, and they are not to be missed.

If you don't want to carry a lot of cash on your trip, using ATM machines will give you the best conversion rates on your money....use the ATM at a bank, or just inside the airport at Cancun....let your bank know you will be travelling, or you may be denied.....don't use free standing ATM's.....there are numerous threads on other forums about ATM usage....do a little more research......check out Playa dot Info, or Loco Gringo...dot com...
Lots of good information to sort through...have a great trip...

    Hi Dazza
We too are first-timers from the UK. We are going to Gran Bahia Principe Akumal in October. Please let us know how you like it and also any tips and excursions. Thanx. Have a great time!

Just one more to back up MapXhick ;)

She right on about the cash.

Change your Pounds into Pesos at a local cambio as you need them.

Or hit the ATM and get your banks current rate (plus fees).
