MEXICAN SLANG 101 It's back! The most popular Mexican Slang book ever is again available in the Yucatan. Ask for it at Needful Things bookstore in downtown Cancun. The definitive, pocketsized book on Mexican slang, it's a must for students of Spanish and travelers in Mexico. Not just a guide to talking hip or understanding what people are yelling at you, it's a humorously written serious insight into Mexican culture and society. See details at the website....
Hello...who are you and why are you posting an advertisement with your first post? Can't guarantee your account will last here...
Wow, sorry. I thought that whole "no commercial" thing was sort of over in the Web 2 world, especially in expat boards where there's no other way for residents to get information. Yeah, it's my first post. I joined this board to let people know this book is available... and to point to the bookstore, which is a resource I appreciate and tell everybody about any chance I get. By the way, I live in Isla Mujeres, but come to Cancun now and then. If I put up a link to a website with information on spoken Spanish, that would be OK, right? But to point to a book is somehow wrong? I'm afraid I don't understand. But it there is something wrong here, let me know. Thanks.
No, no...announcements of all sorts are made on here. It's just that they're usually by established members who we all know and we understand what they're all about. If you're coming out of the clear blue with no intro and no "getting to know you" chat and the first thing you do is post something that smells like spam...you look and act like many of the spambots that hit this board every single day. Some malicious enough to post porn pics/sites, etc. Those posts and accounts are deleted immediately. Anywho, carry on. Shameless plugs of commercial sites are not condoned without the admin's blessing since others here are paying to advertise on CancunCare.
Thank you. No, I'm even more fortunate, I have a room with Caribe view on the windward side about halfway down. I lived there seven years ago and moved back in December. Funny thing is, though things have changed on Isla (including the only 7-11 I have ever seen in Mexico, and with a worse attitude than US ones) my neighborhood has hardly changed at all. Which is kind of nice. I'm not sure what to think of the little red guy with the whip. Just keep him away from me.
My complaint about Needful Things and Nancy: she opened the month I moved back to the States!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waited five years for something like that! But that store is a godsend to the expat community and I am extremely impressed with the selection. Alma Libre Libros is wonderful as well, but there's nothing like the convenience of having a book store in downtown Cancun. Their selection rivals some used bookstores I've seen in the States.
Snorklebum may be new to you, but I've seen him post regularly on one or another forum, was it this, or the Cozumel one or the Akumal-Riviera Maya one, or Cancun Assist? He's been very helpful answering a multitude of questions on where & how to snorkel. He's almost as much a help as RiverGirl and TJ, who are tied for Number 1 in my book. BTW, I started visiting all these forums in the summer and recently I've stopped reading those other forums. Wanna know why......nobody was as nice and helpful as the people on this forum. Ana deserves honorable mention too, in addition to RG & TJ. And as far as avatars goes, hers is/are #1 of ALL forums.
