Hello, I will be coming to Cancun the day after Thanksgiving. I was wondering if there are any shuttles or tour groups going to the Maya Rivera Jazz Festival from Cancun. I really would like to go on November 30th to see Earth Wind and Fire. We were thinking about going early to do some shopping and explore Play de Carmen. I know there are buses that go there but I'm not sure I would feel safe taking one back to Cancun late after the concert is over. I appreciate any information. Thanks, Katie
I don't know of a bus or tour specifically for the jazz festival, but you have a couple of options for transportation. Private Transportation $109 round trip for 1 - 3 people. You decide the pickup times but they need to be set in advance. Bus Transportation. You can take the bus from the hotel zone to the ADO bus depot in downtown and hop on the big ADO bus or the smaller Playa Express bus. Both have continuous departures throughout the day. Same with return. I think the buses are safe day or night. There are nice big tour buses with 40 other people on board. When you arrive back to the bus depot in downtown Cancun I would hop a taxi back to the hotel. There are taxis lined up at the bus depot all the time, day and night. If you opt for the private transfer just let me know and I can set it up for you.
Take the ADO bus down from the bus terminal in downtown. $48 pesos per person each way. ADO is right along the R1 bus line from the Hotel Zone. Sooo easy, cheap and comfortable and on YOUR Schedule. Plus the R1 buses are the only one that operates 24/7. But the ADO is not. Be aware ofthe last bus out of PdC, unless you stay the night... even stay up all night and enjoy a nice beach sunrise
Jazzfest starts late and ends in the wee hours. Rent a car for the day, don't speed and head back when it is over. Or if you plan on having drinks at the event perhaps grab a room for the night, but be aware to book in advance most places close to Jazzfest book up by now. Parking is a bit of an issue as so many people head to the beautiful venue "the beach" for this awesome festival. This is a free event put on really for the locals in Playa, which is why it starts so late, so all of the many hard working people can enjoy the event. Cheers, enjoy, I have been 3 years in a row and I just love it.
Thanks for the information, it is much appreciated. it looks like we will look into the options. We planned on going to Play del Carmen to check out the different hotels for our 2014 trip. I was under the impression that the busses that ran were the same ones we take around the HZ in Cancun. I was also under the impression that the concert started at 7:00 but I didn't know they go on into the late hours. I know we definitely wouldn't want to drive in Mexico. Especially since we will most likely be drinking. But the bus might be a good option if they are the "tour" type. I will pm you Trina about some of the excursions we are looking into. Thanks again, Katie
