When we came to Cancun we knew that maids would cost more than what we'd been accustomed to*, and we were told that to get someone to come occasionally, and reliably, it would be necessary to pay about 200 pesos each visit. Our experience, so far, has been good, with maids coming for 3-4 hours for 200 pesos: recently, we've started paying 250 pesos for a thorough cleaning. It's going well, and we're satisfied with the service, but are we paying more than necessary or is this just about what it takes to get good, occasional service? __________________ *In Vietnam we were paying $90 USD per month for three times a week maid service, including washing and ironing of our clothes, and that was "top dollar" but, as they say, this is not Vietnam
I pay 200 pesos and she does a very good clean and my washing and changes the bed sheets. Nothing better than coming home from work to a clean house.... She has a key so just lets herself in when I'm at work. (This price is for a 2 bed 2 bath apartment)
My in-laws have a maid who cleans the whole house every Saturday for $200. She's VERY thorough (I mean picks up and dusts every single thing and puts away clothes). She has her own key, and has been working for them for years. I think the only thing she doesn't do is laundry.
250 for us, every Saturday (unless it's raining, I think she might be made of sugar as she believes she will melt). Three bedroom/two bath, three story house, she's here about 4 or 5 hours.
That's a great deal Tracey!! We pay 450 a week, she comes twice, Tuesday and Friday, for about 4 hours, does all the clothes, including washing, hanging, folding and putting away and cleans the house quite well. I think anything between 200 - 250 per day is a fair price, if you think of it at 50 pesos an hour, it's a lot more than some people get paid, our security guard does 6 days a week, 12 hours at a time, gets 3000 pesos a month! I work that out at an average of 312 hours per month or 9 pesos 60 an hour, scandalous!
By the way, i thought i'd clarify that he's not our personal security guard, he works for the residencial area we live in!
We pay ours 200 pesos a day (5-7 hours), and she comes 5 1/2 day week. 4 bedrooms, and 4 1/2 baths. She doesn't cook, but she wants to learn... She doesn't do our laundry, but that is MY choice. I don't want anyone to blame (except myself) if something is ruined. That being said, she does iron. Honestly, I love our maid, and feel very lucky we have someone we can now trust. I know we are getting a heck of a deal, but we are very good to her in return.
