Not sure if there has been a review or not but here goes anyway. I went to this restaurant yesterday to try it out. It is where El Ocho was across from Costco. My first surprise was that the waitress (seems to be more than a waitress like a manager or owner)discouraged us from each order a separate entree. "They are really big and should be shared." Throughout the time there, the service was excellent and attentive. We started with the spinach dip which was very good served with what looked like yesterday's unused pizza crusts crispied up and with added cheese! Really good. So we decided to test the suggestion that 2 people could fill up on one entree! We ordered an alfredo pasta with chicken. It was more than enough for 2--in fact we didn't finish it wanting to save room for dessert. Although they took longer than usual, the caramelized apple crepes were good but would have been better with a scoop of ice cream! We saw other people's orders come out and the medium pizza looks like it is good for 1 person and the large is large. The caprese salad, for example, is also plenty big for 2 people. So appetizer, main dish, several soft drinks, 2 desserts, one capucchino and a large pizza to go (for a meeting later!) was $397 pesos. We will return.
We stopped in last night for an order to go. We had an order of lasagna and an order of spicy penne with chicken. Total $120 pesos...we will for sure be goin back! A friend is working there so if anyone dont speak spanish just look for the 6'10" gringo wandering around!!!
We went tonight and had the house pizza, delish! Price is right, medium pizza and three refrescos and the total was 144 pesos. And we brought home a doggie bag. CancunFun, we talked to the very tall man, but strangely I didn't realize he was a gringo! I just assumed Mexican as he spoke Spanish to us. As did the very blonde man with blue eyes.
I knew right away when he said "buenOs tardes" but he, and all the others were super attentive. The chef was wandering around asking people how the food was.
I was there having an impromptu birthday and asked if they could provide a cake and the Capt / PR man by the name of Daniel told me, "He would see what he could do". The Garlic bread that is brought to your table at the early stage of my meal was awesome. Toasted warm, fresh out the oven, lightly buttered with shredded cheese. Ordered the spinach dip as an appetizer and it was really good. I'm not over fond of dips but I gave it a try and was surprised. Now when it comes to pizza I am very critical (having been born in Chicago) Ordered a medium pizza and was hoping for too much but I saw they had a brick oven so I ordered a plain with basil and ground beef. The size portion for the medium pizza was decent. The crust fair at best. The marinara sause was poor, thin and lacking. The cheese used was a faux mozzarella which gave the pizza the illusion of a microwave product. The ground beef tasted more like pork and was hoping that they hadn't dropped it before preparing my pie. The fettucini in Alfredo sauce with chichen and shredded cheese was very tasty. The Captain and PR rep came over to the table to specifically ask "how this dish tasted?".. he said that some patrons commented that the sauce was too creamy. I thought it was fine. The Lasagna for the price and size is perfect. I had my suspicions after the pizza but for some reason the "kitchen" at Lucas can make great Lasagna but not pizza. Drinks were fine. At the end of everything a dark chocolate cake the size of a cinder block appeared in a flash with a candle on top. Dessert is not on their menu but they came through in a pinch. Serivice/Quality/Quantity/Atmosphere/Price = 4 out of 5:aktion033::aktion033::aktion033::aktion033:
I guess I better try that place out. I go by it nearly every day. My buddy Mike L never met a pizza that he liked, except in Chicago, which are almost as good as NY pies. But all these great reviews make me hungry. Maybe tomorrow even.
Did this place (Lucas) close? I drove by fairly quickly this afternoon and it looked like it was not open. There was a sign on the door but, I could not read it (as I was driving by). Look like all the lights were out. I could be wrong, but it appeared to be closed. If so, that is too bad, I really like thier pizza (and the prices weren't too bad either) and brought a few people to try them out in the past.
