I need help, anytime I travel to Cancun or topical area, I have a problem with my ankles and feet swelling. I'm sure the drinking doesn't help, but I do drink alot of water throughout the day. Usually by day 4, I'm sleeping with my feet up on four pillows and soaking them in ice bath prior to putting on my heels for PatyO's. Anyone else have this issue, any solutions?

My feet do get a bit weird in Cancun. I blame the plane ride over and the continual late nights. Haven't found a solution yet, but I find dipping feet in the pool water helps.

My feet swell some but I think it is because I burn the bottom of them running around the pool deck bare foot. My heels KILL me by day 4. My goal this year is to not be on the pool deck without my flops!

For you, with the swelling being up in your ankles....nursing advice here.....stay hydrated because your body will keep storing if it thinks you are dehydrated. Take some ace wraps to wrap your ankles with at night. Helps decrease the swelling faster (make shift of what we call in the nursing world, TED hose or compression hose, to help reduce swelling.)

Don't worry too much! We will be in the same boat!!

I have the same exact problem. My doctor suggested to take an over the counter diuretic to help. The amount of sodium in your diet changes along with all the drinking there. I agree with the compression hoses at least now they sell them in panty hose colors. When I'm laying at the pool I put cool pool water on my feet with a wash cloth. Anything to help keep the swelling down so I can wear those sexy heels later that night. Good luck. :)

    Hey Dawn,
Glad I won't be the only one...in years past, my buddy Harley has the same problem as me and we usually compare our feet each morning, kind of a competition of who has more pitting edema, both of us are usually 2+ or 3+. Ironically both of us are nurses too! We have also come to the conculsion we are in liver failure from all the drinking LOL and our production of albumin is nil. He wears compression hose at night and this year I'm going to bring some along and give it a shot. I wish there was a pill I could take to solve this problem quickly.

I usually lay in the water in the shallow end of the pool on my stomach with my feet up for an hour each day and I have brought a small cooler to the pool, Ron will run and fill it with ice, I look ridiculous sitting with my feet in an ice bath at the pool but I love wearing my heels. The struggles to be sexy!!! LOL

It always happens to me, too. And with Air travel even if I don't go somewhere tropical.
I think in order to not have this happen yould have to have A LOT more water to counteract the booze and sodium laden foods. The combo, plus heat, just don't mix.

I run around the resort by day 2 with Flintsone Feet - but it's worth it though!
    :D
