We're moving into our own little house very shortly and we are looking to buy/take off your hands, any of the following... Half decent fridge and stove Nice comfortable sofa set/two or three piece suite, comfortable being the main word, nothing too rigid or no springs poking you in the ass! Toaster Blender Sandwich Toaster Dining table and chairs Jack Russell Terrier (one that looks like our Stanley in England aka the dog from the film the Mask) TV/DVD Stand Picture Frames Fans Anything else that makes a nice home And also, does anyone know where to buy really nice curtains in this town, we bought some beautiful ones at an Expo in the Convention Center a couple of years ago for like 1800 pesos but no idea what the company is called. Also where is the best place to buy nice plants/flowers for the garden Thanks in advance
You shoulda moved to yard-sale-landia man. But if I hear of anyone getting rid of stuff I will let you know. Plants can be bought at Home Depot, they have a good selection.
When we were looking to furnish our place down here, I would read the classified online from home in the States. Then when I had enough stuff lined up to look at 'in person' I came down. I think I did OK for what I was looking for... Other than that, for appliances and bedding, we found Telebodega to have the best prices and free delivery which was a big help for us. http://www.novenet.com.mx/clasifik2/ With a google toolbar it now translates automatically but I also used to copy and paste to http://www.freetranslation.com/ which also helped me to increase my vocabulary. Other sources that I look at for things here are craigslist under Mexico, Yucatan and http://intheroo.com/playa-del-carmen-forums/ .
about the dog, you might want to visit http://www.rescatemalix.org & consider adopting one. If you are lucky you might find a Jack Russell terrier.
Update on my search... Half decent fridge and stove - Got a great deal in Chedraui, last one on Lopez Portillo, one of the cheapest supermarkets in Cancun, we've got stuff in here for less than half price of what it is in Las Americas Chedraui. Nice comfortable sofa set/two or three piece suite, comfortable being the main word, nothing too rigid or no springs poking you in the ass! - Still looking! Toaster - Got one Blender - Got one Sandwich Toaster - Got one Dining table and chairs - Stunning chairs in sears, 50% off, down from 2000 each to 1000. Getting a table made locally, real wood, glass in the middle, only 1600 pesos, now you can't get that in the US or England that i know of! Jack Russell Terrier (one that looks like our Stanley in England aka the dog from the film the Mask) - Found a dog that had been abandoned in a house for other a month (we were told) yesterday, same color as the jack russell but a lot bigger, we have adopted him and he's now callled Boots (aka the monkey from Dora the Explorer, which we have to listen to for 8 hours a day) TV/DVD Stand - Still looking Picture Frames - Anyone know anywhere decent except Sams to pick these up at a fair price? Fans - Still looking.
Hi Sam - I have a contemporary black and glass TV/Component stand. Near excellent condition. Don't remember any dings. Pretty cool looking. I will be in Cancun Friday. You are welcome to come see it. I am sure we can work out a fair for both of us price if you like it. I got a new one when a buddy bought out the contents of an expensive condo in the HZ and offered my the one from there. I just put it in my extra bedroom and got too busy to do anything with it. Sounds simple to me. See ya, T.J.
Picture frames. I like the guys at Market 23. They make them to order, with or without glass. Different rustice styles of wood, any color you want. Prices are ridiculously cheap. I have had from tiny to giant maps framed and always happy. Next to the key place across from San Francisco grocery. Nice guys, 50% deposit and it is ready in a couple of days. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but it works for me. I have even brought small art from Florida, had it framed and took it back. A pain but prices are deadly in FL.
Nice one TJ, i'll checkout the framing place, i was sure there had to be somewhere like that here! The TV stand sounds cool, you think it would fit a 42" plasma for the living room? Cash is very tight after a mammoth month of forking out for things i didn't even realised i needed after blagging it at the mother-in-laws for nearly 3 years, so i may have to take it off you next month if you still have it. If you want to email me a photo over, that should do it for me and we can start the bidding war, you take sheckles? ;-)
Also for framing: Marcos Davis at Plaza Bonita behind Marcado 28. Excellent work and very reasonable prices.
Thanks, no one got a nice big Sofa they want to get rid of for cheap? I have a small two seater but it's not big enough for us and the kids to all sit on.
