I originally wanted to come to TTR because of this site—I figured a place with such loyal fans must be special.
Then, as I kept reading this forum, I got scared that I’d made the wrong choice, and that I’d end up in awkward situations with swingers, that security would squash all the fun, and that I’d get explosive diarrhea.
Well, we did have some awkward situations with swingers, the security did bust us, and I did end up with explosive diarrhea.
    In other words--Best. Vacation. Ever!
So for anyone thinking of booking or worrying like I was about what they’ve gotten themselves into, I’m going to try to be thorough and detailed, so this is a long one.
:anon:Concern #1: I’m shy and kind of a dork. What if no one talks to me?
Within 15 minutes of arriving, we had been recognized by one of our Cancuncare friends, given the scoop on where to find food, and introduced to some of their friends to hang out with. You couldn’t ask for a friendlier bunch—someone would start up a conversation everywhere you went, and everyone was friendly to us regardless of age, race, gender, number of tattoos, etc. We met more people our first day at TTR than in a week anywhere else we’ve stayed. The Boobs Cruise, which Steve graciously took out even though the weather prediction was grim, was a great opportunity to meet people and loosen up (Thank you, men with bottles of tequila!)
    :bj:Concern #2: I’m pretty open-minded, but what did I get myself into?
Our first “Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore moment:” came on Day 1, when a girl on all-fours by the Jacuzzis invited people to spank her, and a guy on the balcony threw down a belt.
As for swingers, I admit I’m pretty sheltered and naïve about such things, so I thought from reading on here that they have some sort of “code” so they know each other. Well, apparently, between my dancing like a $10 hooker and my drunk-ass husband broadcasting some personal information while we led the charge to skinny-dip in the ocean, we sent some signals. Oops. Awkward situation, handled with much-appreciated grace and respect.
However, I did witness an event get out of hand, leading to a very angry spouse. So, I’d advise making sure you know your own limits, watch your friends’ backs if they’re drunk or clueless, and keep your eyes open, because otherwise you might be in for a really miserable plane ride home.:aktion070:
:ranting1:Concern #3: Security is trying to turn the place into Disneyland
Things seem to have loosened up since April, and they seem to loosen up more if you hand the security guards some cash. I didn’t see any body shots, but I did see the previously-mentioned spanking. One afternoon a couple put on a balcony show, and while you couldn’t see them from our angle, we knew exactly what was happening because the couple directly above them was very humorously acting it out for us. Again, despite the cheering, security did not intrude. Tequila volleyball players got naked on game point. Chinos was hilarious whether he’s been toned down or not, and he even had a guy doing naked pull-ups. There was some Full Monty dancing during the Mr. Temptation contest, too:ass:. I was involved in three separate skinny-dipping episodes, all of which security tolerated until it got too loud.
So, the bottom line seems to be that you can be naked or crazy when they tell you to or when you’re not making a scene.
    :ernaehrung024:Concern #3: I’m going to get sick
Not sick, but inconvenienced by a delicate stomach for the last 3 days of the trip. I took my acidophilus, too. Drunk-ass husband had the same effects, but it was different from a hangover.
:aetsch022:Concern #4: But TripAdvisor said the food is horrible!
The food was good—better and with more authentic Mexican choices than the four other All-inclusives we’ve visited. The buffet always had things that tasted way better than they looked (and vice versa), and the restaurants were consistently good. If you wanted two or (ahem…Tiffany!) three entrees, no problem. Just don’t eat the pizza. If you’re a major foodie, it may not be up to the latest gastro pub, but if you see vacation food as fuel for more drinking, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised.
:sofa:Concern #5: What about the rooms?
Ours was ready when we arrived, and they honored our request for a quiet area. Our room had a strange window-to-the-toilet arrangement, but none of the other rooms we saw had that layout. Our bed had a soft topper on it, and it was fine (and I’m a bit of a Princess and the Pea type.) We had a huge shower with 2 rain-style showerheads which was great, except that it leaked so our floor was always wet. Still, when we got the opportunity to move to a Jacuzzi room on the last night, we decided it wasn’t worth the trouble to move, so I’d have to say even the cheapie rooms are okay.
Overall, we had a great time with fantastic people from all over the world who are good responsible citizens back home but can really bring the party when the opportunity arises!

Glad you had fun! Making me wish Sept would get here even faster! The place is addicting! This will be our 8th trip in Sept and we have had an issue here and there but overall it's just a great place.
