I have heard of waits as much as 4 hours to get through Immigration and Customs upon arrival at the Cancun airport.

    Has anybody experienced this lately?

    thanks!

Depends on the time of year and day of week.

I had family come through terminal 2 a week ago this past Sunday and they where through in 20 - 25 minutes.

But yes, during the busy times it can run you a couple of hours.

I come and go monthly and in March and April the waits for most (not me though) they were brutal. I had friends and family that they waited 1 1/2 and 2 hours to clear the whole system.

The airport does not want a huge backlog of people any more than we want to be in the backlog. Typically, they have more Immigration agents on duty so that helps, and typically, Customs does not scan the bags, but you still have to hit the button and if the light is RED you get checked.

If you can travel with carry on only, that saves lots of time as baggage claim is really slow for the most part. I am usually on JetBlue (Terminal 2), or Spirit or American (Terminal 3) and it is the same for both terminals and the 3 carriers.

    Good luck.

Thanks... I will be arriving at terminal 3 on Delta. Saturday afternoon at 5:30pm...in a couple of weeks.

    Probably the busiest time!

Maybe so, maybe no. All you need is a flight or two arriving before yours to run late and then it stacks up.

Conversely, if flights arriving around your scheduled arrival time, run a bit late, then you may be good to day. In a perfect world the number of flights and passengers expected to be at Immigration and Customs at any given time, are not necessarily equal, but neither are the number of Immigration and Customs agents.

They do a good job of forecasting but there are many variables that can come into play. Just know that you will eventually get outside the airport and at your hotel, enjoying your vacation. Hope, though, that the rains we have had the last two days have moved on.

I have been to Cancun about 9 or so times. The last time was in 2003, however. I don't think I ever had to wait more than a half hour to 45 minutes to get out of the airport. Looks like things have changed a bit.

I seem to remember usually getting a couple of days rain in a June week.

Been there 4 times and never took more then 10-15 minutes to get through Immigration and Customs, another 5-10 to get our bags and transportation is waiting for us. First couple times we used the shared Expedia or Funjet transportation waited longer to get the bus or van full then to get out of the airport. Have since been using private and that cant be beat.

I think the longest I have ever waited was 30 mins and that was almost 10 years ago during peak spring break time. Other wise it is maybe 10 - 15 mins, some times you can even walk right up. My flight is landing this Friday at 12:45 so I hope it is another quick run because I can wait to get back on the beach! (Even if it is forecasted to be cloudy, it will still be in the 80s:clappyinghappy:)

Things sure have changed here, as I have never waited less then 45 min in Immigration alone. There has never been more then three agents there to process the work. Then with bags now being screened, the line in Customs is never a delight. Add onto that the changes to the FMM (FMT), things the last month and a half have been hit or miss.
