Are there any "Loncheras" in Cancun? There are so many of these Food Trucks thet sell tacos, etc. in California, but I do not find them here in Mexico. Is it legal to operate this type of business (Mobile Catering Trucks)? Any info will be appreciated.

Poco dinero. In Mexico everything and anything can be done, you just have to know the right people. Best example I can give are strip joints. On paper strip joints are ILLEGAL in ALL OF MEXICO, yet every single big city has at least one strip joint, and they don't operate discretely.

If you have a lonchera set up already start making your rounds, once you become popular enough "salubridad" will start to bug you for their "cut". There are actually many folks doing this, although they don't use loncheras, they use private cars and do their "routes" at different construction sites.

If you are interested in starting this type of business feel free to get in contact with me. I am conteplating doing something similar selling Cuban Croquetas Tortas, yuca frita, and tostones (figure enough Mexican food already to try and compete, but Cuban food would be something new)

Also if you want to have a "steady" location your best bet would be to become part of the "Sindicato de vendedores ambulantes" that way you won't get hassled. I haven't look to the ins and outs of it yet, but I do know that is the route to go. However most locals, start selling first to see the potential, and once they start getting hassled is when they get on the ball and start getting the right permits.

    Manny,
Thanks for replying to my message. Right now I am in Miami so I am familiar with Cuban Food. I wasn't thinking of going that route (nor am I thinking to sell Tacos or Hot Dogs since that market is covered there) but it seems like an interesting idea. By the way, can you get a good cafe con leche in Cancun? I don't think they have Pilon or Bustelo there, do they?

Anyway, I am looking to move to Cancun in February and I am kicking around some iseas of what kind of business I can open over there.
