If you want a local cell while you are here it is very reasonable if you bring your own unlocked phone. Of course you would only do this if you are going to be here for an extended stay. Tel Cel only charged 150 Pesos to put in a SIMM card with a local number into my phone, and that included 50 Pesos in talk time. Local talk time is 4 Pesos per minute. And you are not charged for incoming calls. Good enough if you want it for emergency use only. You can add more time in 100 Peso lots if you use it more.

Thanks! I'm gearing up to come in March. My cell phone company had a pretty good plan, but I wasn't looking forward to the pay per minute rates.

In the event that you (or anyone) would need a cell phone to call home numerous time, to check on a babysitter, work, etc., and the roaming charges are just too much to absorb, I highly recommend renting a cell phone from Cancun Valet. This is an excellent local outfit with low long distance rates, great customer service and their phone equipment is kept in top condition.

Thanks! I never thought of renting a phone. Those roaming charges can easily get out of hand.
