Tried searching but couldn't find an exact answer to my question. I just moved to the Cancun Hotel Zone from the U.S. and want to obtain local cell phone coverage. Is Telcel the way to go? What is the easiest way to obtain service? Are there even any locations nearby?

Sorry if it sounds like I'm asking someone to hold my hand through this process, but I just really have no clue how to go about this here.

Err just read the thread a few down that mentioned the Tel Cel store at KM 12.5. I think I'll give them a try unless anyone has a better suggestion.

The thread Steve sent is a good one. What kind of coverage are you looking for? Do you need internet, or just to make calls/texts?

My best advice to everyone is to avoid a plan with Telcel at all costs... their Amigo Kit pay-as-you-go options are great, but NO PLANS!!!

I'm on the Amigo Plus pay as you go plan. It seems to meet my needs and I unlocked my Samsung Galaxy S here for $400 pesos so things are back to normal for me.

The data plan is $500 pesos per month for 3Gb and I get $400 pesos credit for phone calls everytime I buy it so that's a pretty good deal. I can call 5 designated US numbers for about 1.2 pesos / minute and 20 locals at .6 pesos per minute.
