For someone who speaks relatively little English - I would be pursuing learning the language while working as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language. Having said that - I'd be looking for furnished, short-term housing in a safe area. Budget would also be a concern. What are some suggestions? Thanks Carrie
A large, triangular area bordered by three streets- Av Bonampak, Av Nichupte and Chichen Itza- defines the area I would consider generally safe in central Cancun. The hostels might offer you a low cost option, initially. I think a budget of 4,000 pesos per month would be adequate to start with, and through sharing accommodations you could get even lower. Students at my university are often looking for people to share apts with them to lower their costs. I know three who are renting a three bedroom, furnished house for 4,000 per month, for example. You could let it be known you'd be willing to tutor a family's children in English and get free accommodations, in some cases; plus, enjoy the added security living with a family would bring. Any shared living would also be a boost to your learning Spanish, as you'd have every opportunity to put it to work!
where i live there are some other studios available that are part of a hotel... right on yaxchilan avenue, doesnt really get more centric than that haha
