Hi all, We are headed to TTR this coming Saturday. In the last few months, the wife has developed an affinity (I say "addiction") to Fireball cinnamon whiskey. I was going to bring a fifth inside our checked bag. Someone suggested just buying it at Duty Free and putting it inside my carry-on. I've never purchased anything at a duty free before, and wonder, should I buy it at the Detroit airport (assuming they even have it) and put it in the checked bag, or should I buy it at the airport when I get to Mexico? Or should I just stick with my original plan. It would be even better to have a couple bottles of it, as I'm sure one will not be enough for 8 days, and we like to share.
Lots of flavors and varieties of rum, vodka, and tequila. I would not count on Fireball being on the shelves of the Cancun Duty Free store.
Agreed, I do not think I've seen it in the Cancun airport before. If you have to have it, bring it.:mnm:
I believe you have to purchase duty free at your port of departure (and show proof you're leaving the country). We've been to Cancun a few times and I'm pretty sure there's no way for an arriving passenger to access the duty free shops in the airport.
You can buy alcohol upon arrival in Cancun at the airport shop, but I don't know if Fireball is available. If it is, I'll be buying some too.
We bring liquor with us a lot of times. Different ways to do it, including taking it out of the bottle and putting it into special containers that are lighter. I agree with the person above who said don't expect fireball at the duty free stores.
I know that some of you know the song... "That Fireball Whisky whispers, Temptation in my ear..." It just seems appropriate! This from the Fireball website: "Fireball can be bought in Canada, the United States and England, and is also available in Aruba, Australia, Belgium, Cayman Islands, Columbia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Guam, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, and the U.S. Virgin Islands." It doesn't list Mexico. It's not looking so good unless we bring our own!
Where exactly is the duty free in the airport? We are usually in such a hurry to get past all the sales people and out of the airport, that we have never stopped to buy anything after arriving.
