I am giving birth to my first at the end of May. I haven't yet asked my doctor but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good lactation consultant. Galenia seems to be very supplement happy and I would like to have a good coach by my side during the first few days. Thanks!
Have you tried the leLeche league on line? They may have online referral in your area or at the least reviewable info.
Yes and I have the LLL book and am attending a class in the states as well. My issue is more about while I am in the hospital, if there are any latching or production issues. The nurses I have seen at Galenia are very quick to supplement formula and I would like to find a local LC that is seasoned in dealing with this.
TraceyUK is pretty up on all things maternal, maybe she hasnt seen your post yet but when she does I'm sure she'll have some advice to offer. Congrats on the pending baby too!
Hey I am a breastfeeding counselor as well as being a doula. PM me for tel number. One thing that is really important if you want breastfeeding to be easier. DO NOT let tham take your baby away at birth- firstly lots of skin to skin contact helps breastfeeding and bonding and also the hospitals here generally find a reason to give your baby a bottle. Good Luck Tracey
I can vouch for Tracey, she helped me a lot with the feeding. As she says it's important that they do not take the baby away at birth or if it's necessary then you have someone go with him/her. They took my son away and even though they had instructions not to give him formula they did so anyway. The nurses at the hospital where my son was born were pretty old school and didn't understand why I didn't want him to have any formula and tried to tell me that I was doing bad and depriving my newborn of nutrients.
