It's been mentioned, recently, but there are a number of new comers to Cancun, and to this forum, and I'd just like to remind you of the opportunity to meet others who are trying to make a go of it, here in Cancun, some of whom can be found tomorrow night, at La Taberna, on Yaxchilan, after about 7:30 PM. Every taxi driver in town knows where La Taberna is.... ____________________ If Mexico has the good fortune of defeating South Africa tomorrow, in the World Cup, there may be some noisy celebrating going on into the evening hours. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/index.html Anybody still celebrating last night's Stanley Cup Hockey Championship victory by the Chicago Blackhawks? http://www.nhl.com/ And, don't forget, our professional baseball team, Los Tigres, are in town this week. Don't miss these games, if you have a chance to get out. http://liga.mexicana.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=l125 Last year, Los Tigres finished second, overall. This year they are doing well, too, just a half game out of first place in their "Hidalgo" division. ____________________
Welllll, tomorrow night is kind of in the middle of two big events. Mexico vs South Africa tomorrow morning. Kick off 9am - I'll be in La Taberna from 8:30 with a bunch of people. Then Saturday the big one, England vs USA. We'll be at Pat O Briens from 12:30 middayish onwards. There's a table booked for 10 but it's looking like 15+ at the moment. No cover, $35 open bar, or pay as you go with 15% off for those with local id. All are welcome to join us on Saturday regardless of nationality, but if you intend to please let me know via PM so we can add to our reservation and get some extra places. It's going to be packed in there.
That's a lot of sports action, and plenty of good times either way with the World Cup, Mexico/S Africa opener; and, England/USA match. Thanks for all the additional detail, Steve. Great chance to have some fun, and get acquainted with people, with the 2010 Cancun International Liver Challenge, 36 hour main event! ____________________ Los Tigres won last night, 10-6, over Veracruz, but remain half a game out of first place in their division as Campeche, the division leader, also won last night. The Tigres will be playing at home again tonight. ____________________
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I HATE THE BLACKHAWKS. My Flyers had one of the worse seasons, and in the post season were a cinderella team. I cried like a baby listening to the game the other night. Sorry, I had to interject!!
South Philly girl here crying over my Flyers, too - AND the fact that I can't make it back "home" til the end of the month! I bet La Taberna's gonna be rockin! Tell Scott and Yvonne I said hi. Have a Sol for me! :beer4:
Listening? I am pretty good at finding the sports that I want to watch via web stream in English if you should need any help in the future.
Me love some Pronger <3!!!!! I have been shown some video streams, but honestly, listening to the home guy's announce the game make it all the better as well. I could possible have both running and just mute the video. BoaterKim...you are from S Philly? Where about? I lived all over Delco... Media, Ridley and Clifton Heights.
World/Stanley Cup, etc. Well, it looks like draws are not too satisfying to anybody. Mexico fought to a draw with S Africa in the World Cup, and I didn't see anybody here cheering on the streets about their draw; likewise, among the England fans at La Taberna, yesterday, who took no pleasure in watching their team fumble their way to a draw. There was plenty of grumbling after the match, with BBC 5 going on at length about what to do about goalie Green, the unlucky man who watched as a well struck ball slipped past him into the goal, when it clearly could have been stopped. On the USA, USA, side, they looked to me like they largely controlled the ball the first half of the game, while England appeared to be sleepwalking, so the draw was not entirely undeserved. _____________________ Wins, on the other hand, are either a lot more satisfying- or distressing, depending on which side your team came out, as we can see from a couple of Flyer fans, on this thread. I was with a Hawks fan who nearly burst into tears as her team won the Stanley Cup, something this Chicago based hockey team had not done for nearly fifty years. (Odd that, one poster crying when her team lost, another when her team won....) _____________________
