How safe is this place after dark? Is it ok to be out there after dark or should we only visit during the day? I have heard mixed things and want to know from someone that is there or has been there.

    thanks

Been there many times and never had any issues or seen anything that would worry me about going back.

It is safe. You will see "transitios" or traffic police in front of the mall all the time. This mall has heavy tourist activity day and night.

The most dangerous thing you would experience if you have a car and the car wash dudes in the parking garage rushing you to ask if you want a car wash.

Seriously, totally safe. Well, you do have to cross the street either coming or going and that can be an adventure.

I'd exercise caution anywhere in Mexico, much like being anywhere in the world. Crime can happen anywhere at any time. There is no exception with Cancun. I wouldn't be paranoid about it though. I've never had a problem in Cancun before, or really Mexico in general, it is always pretty much just missing money. I do know someone who was mugged in Jalisco though. The area is nicer than other further local areas of town.

IMO the most dangerous part of Mexico is dog packs on the outskirts of cities at night.

If I had to choose the safest place in Cancun after dark, it would probably be La Isla Shopping Mall.

Dont sweat it, go enjoy yourself.

We were just there, and we went to La Isla Mall quite a few times late at night. That is by far one of the safest places in all of Cancun. Although the place that sells the Rolex watches still has two armed security gaurds at their door, one of them ready with a machine gun, the other with a holstered sidearm.

I have been to Walmarts at night in the USA and La Isla at night in Cancun. I think I might actually feel safer at La Isla...
