Am I correct in remembering that La Bodeguita del Medio has been closed for a few months now?

Anyone know the name of the restaurant that took its place, and what it's like?

I'm thinking it has been closed for a year or so. And I think it is still boarded up but will check when I drive by this morning.

After La Bodeguita del Medio closed, which as Jim indicated has been at least a year, another opened in that spot called Mojitos. Seems that didn't last long at all.

The lot where the old Mauna Loa was behind the El Zocala property has been sold and that all night club Nectar is being razed, or was when we were there in April.

Yep--and all boarded up. There are several like that in the middle of the hotel zone. Really makes everything look extremely tacky. Too many abandoned buildings to begin with and then they seem to go to great lengths to make them look that way!

With many more hotels going "all inclusive" it is going to get even tougher for the independent restaurant to succeed here. Plus, many restaurants are owned by the resorts here like Hacienda Sisal and the Captains Cove, both owned by Royal Resorts).

I'm surprised Bodeguita del Medio didn't succeed, though. I went there twice while it was open, and it was packed both times. Oh, well.
