A stray cat decided to give birth to her litter in our utility area we discovered today, there are 3 or 4 maybe more kittens. We already have 2 cats, both rescued strays, and really dont want any more. If anyone wants one or more please get in touch, also anyone have any ideas where to take them if we cant find owners for them all?
Here's a couple of pics, they are all fairly similar looking. The mother is still with them (hidden behind some gas cylinders) so we havent got too close and still not sure how many there are. I'm no cat expert but the kittens seem older than newly borns, wondering if the mother gave birth somewhere else then bought them here?
Steve, Those kittens are very, very cute. Too bad I'm allergic and already have a house full of dogs...and a couple of adopted kitties too. The kittens look like that are at least 2 or 3 months old...maybe even 4, although I think they start to really grow around the 4 month mark. I really know nothing about cats as I'm a "dog person", but am judging by the size the kittens I had (from my first adopted kitty) were at that age. Anyway, I had 2 kittens that I couldn't find homes for and I took them to a vet on Isla Mujeres. His name is Delfino and he specializes in felines. He rescues cats and, if he can't find homes for them, he keeps them on his property and takes care of them. I don't know if he is still taking in cats, but it can't hurt to call him. He speaks English very well, but also Spanish (although I believe he's French...can't remember). Here is his contact info: Delfino - Vet in Isla Mujeres 998 167 8895 If that doesn't work out, contact the various animal rescue places in town, like Rescate Malix, or Coco's Cat Rescue in Playa. Good luck! Susan
kittens Steve you may want to get in touch with Laura Raikes in Playa del Carmen. She is in charge of an orginzation called Cocoscats Rescue. They have a website. Laura will take the momma and kittens. Good Luck
Thanks for the advice both. I've been looking around a bit at 'kitten ages'. I think the photos makes them look bigger than they really are but as Susan says these are at least a couple of months old - which makes me puzzled as to how they got here since I know we would have noticed them before yesterday if they'd been born here. Anyway they are still here, no takers as yet Would rather give them direct to good homes if I can to avoid burdening the rescue places who I am sure are inundated already, but will be making enquiries at various cat rescue places tomorrow if still no interest. So if anyone has any other numbers or sites I can try please let me know.
Oh, does anyone have a contact number or email for Rescate Malix - their website doesnt provide either
Awww, sweet kitties! Steve, Rescate Malix is very active on their Facebook page, you can post pictures there and announce that you have these little guys looking for homes. I think they are more active on FB than on their webpage. I would also post it on your personal FB and ask people to "share" to spread the word. Good luck!
All 3 kittens have been found a new home with the same owner. The lady picked them up today. A post on the Rescate Malix facebook group did the trick.
