kentucky derby party???

yankee here well NYer to be exact.

I will be going to visit my friends in NC on the weekend of the Kentucky Derby and she said we would be going to a Kentucky Derby Party and to buy a hat..lol

I was thinking since its also Cinco De Mayo on that day would a sombrero with some flowers stragetically placed be good??

Please someone help me out and what exactly happens at this kind of "party"?? I am assuming alcohol, food and just watching the Derby?? lol

I like the hat idea.

The Derby is all about the hats and most parties get into that as well. Some even have a contest to see who has the best and worst hats.

I figured salite to Mexico since going in May and in the Derby spirit as well

Try getting a glass full of mint julip worked into the hat.....very Derby.
