i'm eric. joining a couple boards and looking forward to participating. hehe unless i get too distracted! eric
there's no hidden links, www, etc... should wait and see if anything else is posted from this account before reacting.
In a few other forums I've been to, they setup a rule where user with 0 post can't start a thread. Why don't you guys do that here? That'll dramatically cut down the amount of spam.
Is that a rule enforced by mods, or is it a program that can be written in by the admin? sounds like a good idea to me
I think it's probably a setting built into some forum that mods/owners can change. Maybe ask Steve if he has seen it?
I run a board on my myrtle beach site, same program as this one, I dont know how to do that, but I think you can write an html code and insert it in the script that might do that! I could go research it..........but thats just too much time hahahaha I am sure steve likely knows how if it can be done!
i dont think thats a good idea at all. Granted we dont get TOO MANY newbies who like to make intro posts, still would kind of shun them away if they couldnt. UNLESS we made a universal post were they have to introduce themselves
I know there are likely a lot of people that come here and maybe only post a few times, just to ask a question..............so thats right fletch, might not be such a good idea!
phpBB is completely modular. You can modify it to do just about anything. The only downside I've seen to the 1 post rule is that it stops newly registered members from using their first post to either introduce themselves or as ask a question. It may force them to post their first message in a thread they don't know anything about just to get it out of the way, or just deter them from ever posting. One of the boards I mod at set a forum rule. No posting in forums if you don't have at least 1 post, period. Can't start or reply. They keep one forum open to everyone, called "New Users Starts Here". There's an open Hello/Test thread that you can post to and then start posting to other forums.
