I just got back from cancun and let me tell you i'll never go back! First of all cancun is dead folks, I mean Nobody is there! the clubs were empty, my hotel sucked, the food at my hotel was horrible. the only good thing was i did get alot of sleep. Now I did have fun swimming and drinking @ the pool but that was it. the weather was nice but let me tell you there was a rain storm for like two nights. This place has truly changed since the last time I was there. Also by the way there is no swine flu there, no one wore mask and none of my friends or myself are sick. this is my trip so don't let me ruin it for you, just go see for yourself and email me when you come back.
He posted previously that he was staying at the Solaris.....one of my really nit picky co-workers stayed there not too long ago and her opinion was the exact opposite of his about the place...
And mine too. I stayed at the Royal Solaris a few times, and not only did I have the time of my life each visit...the food, staff and over all stay was the best of any all inclusive I have ever been to. It's a shame that Mother Nature was even included. Not really sure that is under anyones control. And as for it being dead...are you sure you didn't sleep your entire trip? My friend Danny, who was at the Solaris July 26th-Aug 2nd came back with a completely different trip report....Cancun was packed!!!
Yesterday the Cancun airport was so busy that people were waiting in line to get to Immigration for more than an hour...that's something that usually only happens in high season. But right now lots of planes are coming in and they are coming full. In a month it will be slow season here, but not yet. As for rain, well, this is the tropics and we do get tropical rainstorms here. You've just got to enjoy them when they happen. And they don't happen much. Cancun has more than 200 days of sunshine per year so there's really no justification for complaining about the weather here.
The Cancun stock market aka Hotel Occupancy numbers show an average over 70% for the time you were in Cancun, so it obviously wasn't "dead" due to lack of people though it is the national tourism season and there may have been less English speakers around, perhaps the clubs you were hitting were the wrong nights, times, or possibly venues. The Mexican owned and operated Royal Solaris is one of the more popular repeater & timeshare AI resorts in Cancun and has been for years, it's a solid middle of the road Resort, not as good as she was in 1989 but who is, usually with average to above food, typically good Mexican & Seafood for the AI scene, and known for terrific service. Knowing the hotel layout and which restaurants to eat at, on which days/ nights is a plus. If you were looking for better with the obvious price bounce, you may want to try the upscale sister resort the GR Solaris. The weather, well, as others have stated, it's the tropical rainy season, some rain is expected, and then again some rain isn't always a bad thing.
skeptical I'm always skeptical of people who have just three or four posts. . .or only one, when they really rip a place. Makes me wonder who they are or whether there may be something else at play. I remember on one of the other boards there were four or five "new" posters just ripping a car rental place. The posters showed to be from different places in the U.S. However, in their posts, there were NO contractions used AND some of the sentences and phrasings were exactly alike.
Weird, you're post is from 7 august, I was in cancun from august 1 till august 13 (Riu Cancun) and had a AWESOME time ! Clubs were full as hell, at least TheCity/CocoBongo/DadyO/OpenLounge/Basic were very crowded, as usual. Outside on the streets were many people as well, as usual. it rain 3 times during the time I stayed there and everytime it ended within like 10 minutes... didn't even had to leave the beach or pool during the rain. You sure you were in cancun?
