Hi everyone, My name is Carlos and my girlfriend (Natalija) are new to Cancun. We arrived on Monday and I must say this forum and the people that contribute to it have been of great help! So far people have been really friendly here Finding an apartment has been challenging as we are staying only for 3 months. We could have gotten a better deal for sure but given that the high season is just about to happen, we are happy we found a place we like within our budget. A tip for people in the same situation as us and considering coming to Cancun, offer the landlord the possibility for you to pay all rents in advance from day one. We noticed that the landlords / agents response went from: "Not possible for less than 1 year contract" to: Great! When are you ready to sign and move in? About us, we are in our late 20's, both with postgraduate degrees. Natalija is a professional pianist, with a Masters focused on Beethoven Sonatas. I am an academic researcher and professor in the Business field. I am originally from Portugal and she is from Slovenia. We both open minded and love to meet new and interesting people. Let me know also if you have any gatherings where we could have the possibility to meet other people from the forum Carlos and Natalija
Congrats on making the move, seems like things are working out well so far. Friday nights at La Taberna on Av Yaxchillan often has a lot of expats including some from the forum. Maybe we also ought to arrange a forum meet up one night, it's been a while since the last one.
Hi! Thank you for the welcoming words and wishes. Next friday we will try to make it to La Taberna to meet new people. "Maybe we also ought to arrange a forum meet up one night, it's been a while since the last one." That would be great and we would surely be present. Do you have any dates in mind Steve?
Get together Could an open air venue work for everyone? The weather is pretty good, after all. Los Arcos was OK, I thought, the other time, but some may have a better suggestion in mind! (Perhaps somewhere that would allow Steve a choice of something other than Mexican Food?!) La Taberna is fun, too, if that's the choice, but noisy.
I am in but will be out of town next Friday the 18th. V, open air sounds nice. Could be one of those little sidewalk places by the park. La Placita on Yax is nice, reasonable and meets the open air criteria. I haven't been there in a while but have always enjoyed it. They might grill up a chicken breast for Steve. Too bad El Padrino's closed. I loved that place.
Carlos I have a good friend here who is from Portugal.I am sure she would love to meet someone from back home.
