I was at TTR/Cancun about 18 months ago for a short weekend and am coming back in Feburary.

I'd like to not break my running routine. I used the treadmill at the resort the last time I was there....it was fine, but I have a bad relationship with treadmills...I'd rather do road work.

I've been to the Cabo TTR for several years before they went Desire then sold out. It was fairly easily and safe to run along highway 1 as it had sidewalks enough to get my miles in.

So that all said, does anyone know how viable it is to run along Kukulkan road in Cancun? I've tentatively mapped out that right from the door of the resort it's about 3m south and east to the Riu Palace/Mayafair Desing hotel before it turns completely south...so running there and back is a good 6 mile chunk. I seem to recall watching out the window of the van airport transfer that there were sidewalks along at least most of the route.

Has anyone at least walked that far that can give me some thoughts on how reasonable/safe it might be to run it at 6-7am in the morning?

Yea, yea...I know...sacrilege. Working out, getting up at 6am on vacation. But that's my routine and I'd like to stick with it at least a couple of days of my trip.

    thanks!
    Nate

There are great sidewalks all the way along that stretch. I run on them every time I go. I do not do 6 miles but I have walked up and down then entire strip and it is all great for walking or running.

I have walked & run it by myself & with my husband. Safe, easy route. Plenty of car traffic at the time you are talking of going, but not much foot traffic.
    Enjoy your vacation!

There are kilometers mile markers along the way. Stay on the beach/ hotel side an there are no traffic lights or roads to contend with ( at least for 3 kilomters in either direction), Just hotel entrances. If you go right coming out of the hotel, I believe your catch more shade and at the 0 mile markers there is a little outdoor fitness center with bars for pull-ups etc. From memory, TTR is at the 3.5 mile marker.

Had decided not to vacation this winter...Woke up to yet more snow Tuesday morning after the -20f last week and booked as soon as I got into work.

    So, 2/6 - 2/11 Here I come.

Thanks 'Duckman and Kelly' and 'Jim and Cheryl' for your replies as well. It seem'd a reasonable proposition 18 months ago from the window of the transfer van...but it's good to hear multiple confirmations.

    thanks!

We get there just after you leave. Have a great time on your vacation away from the snow and enjoy your morning workouts.

Do any of you bring Garmin watches to run there? I brought one to Germany, and it took a long time to find the satellite (like over an hour at first). Did you have trouble getting a signal quickly? I have a 305.

I've used a Garmin 410 in Cabo on several trips and didn't have any issues. That first sat synch was slow maybe 3 mins or so, but it's always that way on a new location. Garmin's supposedly remember the last position used to help synch faster....after the first one it was the normal 1 minute or so. Although as usual, cloudy days, trees, buildings &etc all slow it down. Don't know why you would have had a problem in Germany. That said, I'm thinking this trip I'm cutting down on the gadgets I carry and will just do manual entries when I get home since I have a pretty solid route distance mapped out.
