Hi, this is my first post in this forum (obviously) and would like some info anyone could help me out with.

    Little background of myself:

I'm a Mexican citizen but I spent most of my life in the States. My family and I just had the wild idea of moving to Cancun and we did so not too long ago. It took a lot of getting used to because I have no recollection of this country being that I was a kid when I last set foot in Mexico, but the lifestyle is a lot different than I'm used to, which isn't bad.

Needless to say, I feel like a foreigner in my own country. I tried getting all types of paperwork, but it seems like it's hit and miss. For example: I can't get the IFE until the elections are over. I can't get the cartilla (I'm assuming it's like Selective Service in the US; correct me if I'm wrong). Apparently a license isn't considered an official document from what I've heard (once again correct me if I'm wrong). Luckily my passport is still valid, so I've been getting by with that.

After living somewhat like tourists for as long as we've been here, we've come to the realization that money is running short and it's time to look for a job.

I received some help in writing out my resume (curriculum), and I've been looking for a job. Unfortunately from what I've seen, many job listings ask for 1) required time living in Cancun 2) experience in whatever job I'm looking to apply (I realize that's probably the same in many countries) and 3) English is more of a requirement than a plus. I had originally thought of using that as a selling point in my curriculum, but it doesn't seem to do much in terms of standing out since many people speak English here.

What type of jobs are more prone to hiring English speakers with no experience working in Mexico?

And where would be the best place to start?

I uploaded my curriculum in several sites, but so far after a week of looking I haven't had any luck.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Awesome!

Thank you for sharing that. I sent him a PM. That would be something I'd definitely enjoy doing. Fingers crossed that it's still vacant.

Almost all jobs here in Cancun say they require experience, but from what I've seen with my friends and family, companies often hire qualified people even with no experience.

If you fit the bill for a position but have no experience, send your resume in anyway :)

That being said, just sending in your resume doesn't always work very well. I've seen first-hand that Human Resources departments only look at resumes when they're doing mass hirings, and most available positions (especially the decent ones) are never even shown to the public, just word of mouth. The best way to find a job is through personal connections. Put yourself out there and meet people to see who's hiring!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try to keep looking any way I can. Looks like I'll have to be relentless because I don't have a lot of experience that would translate into a great paying job here I don't think...

This morning I got a call for an interview as an "animador", seems out there for my personality, but wouldn't mind getting into it if it came down to it.

I really liked your blog, by the way.

Would you be interested in working in a Tulum hotel as a concierge/receptionist? Are you a husband/wife team? How many children?
If you are interested, please send your resume to Tulum4Business@gmail.com.

Hi! I'm on the same boat as you are/were. My mother brought me to California when I was 3. I am now 23 and know very little about Mexico. But life has been rough after high school. Originally I am from Acapulco, but I want to move to Cancun. Not because its beautiful but because I feel it is more Americanized, therefore I'd fit in. My question to you is. What problems could I face moving back to Mexico after 20 years? Would I have a hard time finding work? I do speak both English and Spanish but I more than sure a large percentage of the people there also speak both. I want to get into the tourist industry such as tour guide or something that will allow me to be outdoor and interacting with people. I am aware that I will not make much money once there, which is fine. I just want to make enough to have things I need. I will have support from family in the states for a few month until I get settled in. Also will I need documents? I have my Mexican Passport, birth certificate and Mexican ID card. Anything else you feel would be important please do tell.
Thank you so much for your time!
    Javeth
