So, since I "know" we've been cold at TTR in Jan. Feb. before. We're going to go back to St. Martin to visit from Jan. 3 to 10, visiting Orient Beach (nude remember) of course, have a nude sandwich at "The Perch," the bar that overlooks the nude part of orient Beach (if it's still there, the Perch, not the Beach).

Weather is "supposed to be mid-80s, so I'm crossing my fingers since 80 is a threshold beach temp for us thin-blooded Houstonians.

There's a bar called "The Sunset Bar" next to the main airport on St. Martin (SXM) with a sign next to their beach-side bar service area that says...

    .... wait for it...

.."Topless Women Drink Free." I'll bring y'all back a picture of Stacia there, cutting down on my bar bill by half!

We love St Maarten too. Great island.

And yeah, we had some really chilly weather at Desire a few years ago in January.

75 is ok to sun bath but your right to jump in the pool, 80+ is good

got froze out dec/Jan 2011/12 at TTR and won't go back that time of year expecting to go in the water. The days are also short on daylight

    Sounds good, what resort ?

I agree with you on Cancun being a tad cold in January. We are also going to St. Maarten (and Orient beach and the Sunset bar). We love those places. We will miss you by a few weeks though. We will be there Feb. 1st-8th.

I went to St.Maarten in January for a wedding a few years back and it was perfect weather, 80s and sunny.

The downside was that I found out I was pregnant 3 days before I left and so my trip was to an all inclusive, not being able to drink and being the safe driver everywhere.

Its a lot warmer then Ontario.

Depending on whether or not they are running the pool heater determines whether or not your going to stay in the pool.

Even being that far south the days are still short , and the sun has no heat after 4 and is behind the building around 4 thirty

If the wind picks up it is too cool for sunbathing or going in the pool even though it might be in the low 70s

The evenings were fine as the temp does not drop that much , temp being maintained by the Ocean.

Theses comments are based on my trip 2 years ago , things change year to year , but not the short days.

Back then prices were alot higher for Jan , and a lot lower for April and Oct/Nov,,, so I started going twice @ year for just a bit more $. Prices have gone up know for April so my formula is no longer good :(

We agree w this logic. Everyone likes to say the weather is great compared to home. It all depends on perspective. It isn't great in PA but we like to be hot or at least warm on vacation and mostly we were not during our trip week 8 feb 2010. Ever since we avoid jan/feb.
